Dopo tante catapecchie condivise, i litigi per i conti e i turni per la doccia, Amir, studente di psicologia a Tel Aviv, e Noa, studentessa di fotografia a Gerusalemme, hanno preso casa al Castel. Lappartamento trovato non è, certo, quanto di meglio si possa desiderare. Un bilocale con un salotto grande quanto una cucina, una cucina grande quanto un vano doccia e un vano doccia con la spatola per tirare via lacqua quando si allaga. Ma per Amir e Noa è un palazzo dove possono vivere come un re e una regina, gi-rare per il salotto in mutande e fare lamore dappertutto, a qualunque ora, senza temere che il coinquilino rientri in anticipo. Dietro il muro del loro appartamento abita il padrone di casa, Moshe Zakian. Moshe ha soltanto due anni piú di Amir, anche se è già marito di Sima e padre di due bambini. Non parla granché, preferisce fare, aggiu-stando qualunque cosa: serrature, elettricità, tubature otturate. E sua moglie Sima, che al contrario parla sempre e ha la battuta pronta, è il suo grande amore. Si vede a chilometri di distanza. Nellappartamento di fronte vive il piccolo Yotam che si sente trascurato da quando Ghidi, il fratello grande, è morto soldato in Libano. Sua madre, infatti, non fa altro che singhiozzare e mormorare «Ghidi, oh Ghidi» circondata dalle amiche che cercano di calmarla. Nei paraggi si aggira Saddiq, il muratore arabo. Per prenderlo in giro, gli altri muratori lo chiamano Shaikh Saddiq, perché non sgarra di un millimetro quando si tratta di fare le misurazioni. Saddiq non ha una casa al Castel, ma vorrebbe averla, anzi riaverla. Nellappartamento sopra il bilocale di Amir e Noa, quello costruito come una volta, pietra su pietra, prima che arrivassero i coloni ebrei, vivevano, infatti, i suoi. Sotto il mattone sopra la porta dingresso, dentro un sacchettino avvolto nella carta da giornale, sua madre ha nascosto qualcosa di importante per lei che, sia lodato Allah, Saddiq vorrebbe riportarle indietro. Quattro case e un desiderio struggente di trovare il proprio posto nel mondo, nel momento in cui il proprio mondo Israele e le infinite anime che lo compongono è sconvolto dallassassinio del Primo Ministro Yitzhak Rabin: cosí potrebbe essere descritta questopera che ha rivelato il talento di Eshkol Nevo sulla scena letteraria internazionale. Vincitore di numerosi premi, tradotto in numerosi paesi, il romanzo appare ora in una rinnovata traduzione italiana, rivista sulla base delle preziose indicazioni dellautore.

Marion Cave Rosselli is remembered as the 'perfect companion' of the Italian Antifascist leader Carlo Rosselli, assassinated in Paris in June 1937. But little is known about the young English student fired with revolutionary enthusiasm who moved to Florence in 1919, witnessed the violent march of fascism to power and thereafter became a resolute adversary of the Mussolini dictatorship. Based on a wealth of little-used private and public archives, this biography retraces her journey from a modest home on the outskirts of London to the first underground Antifascist opposition in Italy, from the prison island of Lipari to exile in Paris and the United States. It reveals the social, cultural and existential factors which underpinned her unflinching political engagement alongside her husband. It also highlights the many challenges faced by Antifascist women within a highly patriarchal movement by bringing to life the figure of a woman who challenged the traditional division of labour within the family and struggled to carve a political role for herself. First published in 1998, this volume aims to draw attention to an ongoing shift in the perception of law, which is now increasingly understood as a cultural and historical phenomenon. As other such phenomena – like music, literature, or art – it is acknowledged that it is created in a specific environment, on which it is dependent for its functioning and interpretation. The historical aspects of love in a European and Nordic context are underlined, as well as the modern understanding of love and law as incompatible and contrasting concepts. Developments within the European Union and especially the relation of the EU to so called third country nationals and immigrants demonstrate that the problematic concerning law and love is not only one of legal philosophy but also of legal and everyday reality. The claim that love has been specifically ‘European’ is discarded as Eurocentrist, and the need for more particular emotions and a more pragmatic approach to romantic feelings, for a ‘reasonable love’ is discussed from legal, feminist and philosophical perspectives.

Questo romanzo nasce in primis dalla voglia di raccontare la mia esperienza all’interno di un gruppo musicale dove ho passato ben 23 anni della mia vita, ero uno dei solisti e autore di testi. Ma a un certo punto, in un giorno di pioggia e vento, mentre scrivevo, i tubi e le gronde iniziarono a suonare. Fu allora che nella mia mente si materializzò il personaggio-non personaggio che dà il nome al mio romanzo, “IL PIFFERAIO”. La mia fantasia mi portò oltre quella storia vera e nacque il nuovo Pietro, o meglio nacque Pedro, personaggio principale, che si imbatté in due poco di buono che con l’inganno gli spillarono soldi giocando a carte e barando. Ci fu un omicidio di uno dei due furfanti, Pedro venne condannato ingiustamente e imprigionato. All’interno della prigione, in attesa del processo, conobbe il suo avvocato, una donna della quale si innamorò. Durante la sua prigionia i suoi compagni di cella furono assassini, condannati ingiustamente, e povere anime perse. Pedro tentò persino il suicidio, perché ormai aveva perso la speranza, ma gli angeli esistono, e Pedro fu salvato da uno di loro. Dopo tanta sofferenza, Pedro fu assolto… ma poi Pietro si svegliò da quell’incubo e capì che aveva solo sognato.
