Il puntuale resoconto del restauro della Scalinata delle Undici Fontane all'interno dell'Orto Botanico dell'Università di Roma "La Sapienza" che qui si presenta, sembra da un lato rispondere finalmente all'auspicio avanzato già nel 1984 con la mostra Roma e il suo Orto Botanico. Storia ed eventi di un'istituzione scientifica, allora organizzata in occasione del centenario dell'insediamento di quella struttura universitaria nell'area dell'ex giardino Corsini; dall'altro, però, esso viene pubblicato a poca distanza di tempo da un grave evento che ci deve fare riflettere su come viene gestito e tutelato il nostro patrimonio artistico: alcuni reperti archeologici esposti nei viali dell'Orto Botanico sono stati trafugati nella notte tra il 2 e il 3 settembre 2010, inferendo un'ulteriore dolorosa ferita ad un organismo già sottoposto dal 1883 a continue perdite e trasformazioni, come questo contributo documenta.

Dreaming with Open Eyes examines visual symbolism in late seventeenth-century Italian opera, contextualizing the genre amid the broad ocularcentric debates emerging at the crossroads of the early modern period and the Enlightenment. Ayana O. Smith reevaluates significant aspects of the Arcadian reform aesthetic and establishes a historically informed method of opera criticism for modern scholars and interpreters. Unfolding in a narrative fashion, the text explores facets of the philosophical and literary background and concludes with close readings of text and music, using visual symbolism to create readings of gender and character in two operas: Alessandro Scarlatti's La Statira (Rome, 1690), and Carlo Francesco Pollarolo's La forza della virtù (Venice, 1693). Smith’s interdisciplinary approach enhances our modern perception of this rich and underexplored repertory, and will appeal to students and scholars not only of opera, but also of literature, philosophy, and visual and intellectual cultures.

Può un ‘contesto storico’ entrare in rapporto dialettico tra le ragioni della sua conservazione e le esigenze pratiche per soddisfare le necessità del nostro tempo? Il problema è particolarmente difficile da affrontare per via della estraneità degli elementi tecnologici e di alcune loro finalità rispetto a strutture che in origine ne erano prive. Esso non è solamente materia tecnologica, ma rappresenta un aspetto rilevante nell’ambito della loro tutela e valorizzazione dal punto di vista culturale, teorico e pratico. La complessità del tema rappresenta per il progettista una sfida. Con il suggerimento di un percorso metodologico fondamentale per l’elaborazione di un progetto rivolto al miglioramento e/o all’inserimento degli ‘elementi tecnologici’ (impianti storici, sistemi d’illuminazione, sicurezza antincendio, efficienza energetica e microclima, dispositivi di collegamento verticale in edifici e in ambiti urbani e paesaggistici) si vuole solo indicare la strada verso la ‘buona’ architettura rivolgendosi a tutti gli operatori coinvolti. Per questo motivo è importante affiancare alla mera prassi operativa, un corretto approccio culturale al fine di definire un progetto di qualità.

Lo scritto si inserisce nel contesto dell’attuale restauro della fontana del Nettuno di Bologna e vuole descrivere una metodologia destinata a facilitare le scelte critiche operative per la progettazione del nuovo sistema delle acque impostata su simulazione a partire da dati acquisiti e modelli basati su leggi fisiche. In particolare descrive tecniche, metodi e passaggi utilizzati e sviluppati per la realizzazione della simulazione degli zampilli d’acqua utilizzata dai progettisti e presentata dal Dipartimento di Architettura dell’Università di Bologna all’amministrazione comunale e agli altri dipartimenti, enti e soggetti coinvolti. | This paper refers to the current restoration of the Neptune Fountain in Bologna. It describes a methodology to facilitate the critical operational choices made during the design of a new water system developed using simulation of acquired data and models based on physical laws. In particular it describes the techniques, methods and steps used and developed by the designers to simulate the jets of water. The project was presented by the Department of Architecture of the University of Bologna to the town council and the other departments, agencies and authorities involved.
