L’intento di questo saggio è far emergere la critica avanzata da Gennaro Sasso al pensiero metafisico attraverso l’analisi della categoria di relazione. Gennaro Sasso – oltre ai notissimi studi su Niccolò Machiavelli e sull’idealismo italiano –, è autore di una particolarissima ed assai interessante filosofia, che costituisce un ripensamento generale del pensiero filosofico occidentale e della sua crisi. Protagonisti principali della riflessione filosofica di Sasso sono la negazione assoluta e l’aporeticità del concetto di differenza. Sasso avanza le proprie riserve al concetto di relazione, assunto come categoria chiave del pensiero metafisico occidentale. Nel farsi carico di mettere in evidenza la forte connessione tra esegesi di un particolare testo filosofico e libera riflessione teoretica, il presente lavoro analizza il pensiero di Sasso a partire da tre angoli visuali: innanzitutto dalle critiche che egli muove al concetto di «partecipazione» così come viene delineato nella prima parte del Parmenide platonico, successivamente dal rapporto tra «fenomenologia» e «logica» all’interno della filosofia hegeliana, e infine dal passaggio dalla «logica dell’astratto» alla «logica del concreto» nell’attualismo di Giovanni Gentile. Attraverso la critica alla categoria della relazione, emerge qualcosa di assai più generale che una, pur acuta, critica concettuale: emerge infatti il tratto essenziale della tradizione metafisica occidentale, ossia la ricerca, sempre fallita perché intrinsecamente contraddittoria, di un nesso tra dimensione empirica e fondazione filosofica. Il problema della relazione è il problema del fondamento, e il problema del fondamento è il problema della metafisica. Quanta parte della filosofia occidentale – ci si potrebbe chiedere – precipita dentro il dissolvimento della metafisica? NICCOLÒ PARISE (Torino, 1986) ha studiato Filosofia all’Università di Torino e all’Università di Zurigo. Si è laureato in Filosofia Teoretica all’Università di Torino, dedicandosi soprattutto allo studio del pensiero di Emanuele Severino e Gennaro Sasso. Attualmente è dottorando in Filosofia all’Università di Basilea con un progetto di ricerca riguardante il modo in cui il concetto di sintesi a priori si presenta nei sistemi speculativi di Benedetto Croce e Giovanni Gentile, investigandone in particolar modo la fonte kantiana. Proclus, successor of the School of Athens in the fifth century AD, is one of the last great voices of a pagan polytheistic world in crisis in the face of the gradual rise of Christianity. His writing bears witness not only to one of the most influential metaphysical representations for the constitution of the idea of a philosophical "system" based on a complex "language game" based on the conceptual sphere of "order" and "unity", but also of an attempt to reconcile rhetorics with philosophy. In the three chapters in which the book is structured (style, system, unity), then, a conscious intention is evident in Proclus, to adapt the content of his systematic metaphysics to literary form. Hence there is a consistency traced in Proclus' stylistic choices , with the aesthetic norms of a rhetorical canon, probably established in the cycle of readings of the Neoplatonic school. The way in which expressive "art" is subordinated in Proclus to philosophy is one of the most emblematic examples of a development in late antiquity, that of the enkuklios paideia – the union of all the arts necessary for the formation of man – that would later constitute in the Latin world the cycle of liberal arts.
