Il trattato Sul Sublime (Perì hypsous) è il piú cospicuo documento della critica letteraria antica e ha avuto sulla cultura moderna un’influenza pari a quella della Poetica di Aristotele e dell’Arte poetica di Orazio. A lungo attribuito per errore a Cassio Longino (III sec. d.C.), fu in realtà composto nel I sec. d.C. da un anonimo retore che oggi chiamiamo convenzionalmente Longino (o Pseudo Longino). Dopo la prima edizione procurata nel 1554 dall’umanista Francesco Robortello, il Perì hypsous fu tradotto in francese da Nicolas Boileau (1674) e acquisì presto una fama europea tale da allargare la riflessione sul sublime dall’originaria dimensione retorica a una dimensione filosofica che, dopo gli approfondimenti settecenteschi venuti da Vico, da Burke e da Kant, favorì l’estetica romantica del genio e da qui avviò le successive elaborazioni decadenti e postmoderne di una categoria cui spetta ancora oggi un posto di rilievo nel pensiero estetico contemporaneo. Questa nuova edizione, curata da Giovanni Lombardo, affianca al testo greco una traduzione italiana che, senza rinunciare al rigore filologico, garantisce una pronta leggibilità anche ai lettori non classicisti. A un commento aggiornato sulle piú recenti e rilevanti acquisizioni critiche s’uniscono un’ampia introduzione generale, una ricca appendice biobibliografica e un prezioso corredo di indici.

Unfinished work or interrupted work... It is difficult to find a definition, to identify the theme, to distinguish chance from intentionality. Few 'genres' and / or variations express as the 'unfinished' the same need for what is external to the work and which somehow completes it, bringing the work in a privileged position to create a harmony with our restless modernity. No wonder that in literature, in addition to what has been brutally interrupted, the letters, the diaries, the chronicles of disease and suffering are naturally suspended works. No wonder either that incompleteness accompanies the writings referring to unsolved issues, hidden traumas, silent melancholy. Dictated by choice or by distinct degrees of incapacity, the temptation of the unfinished pursues, urges, deludes its author... The private writings, the sketches, the projects, the papers testify the path necessary for the work to develop and conquer its shape. This book is rich and suggestive and has been conceived and edited by Anna Dolfi. Like its very object, the work is drafted in the perspective of the unfinished and questions some of the many possible examples, along a diachronic arc that goes to literature at figurative arts, theatre, cinema: from Leonardo to Blake, from Ariosto to Stendhal, from Dossi to Gadda, from Kafka to Borges, from Sarraute to Morante, from unknown writers affected by 'cancroregina' to the last Pirandello staged by Tiezzi, up to Fellini of the impossible Mastorna ... NON C’È DUBBIO che viviamo in un momento favorevole per il fantastico nella cultura spagnola: è sempre maggiore il numero di autrici e autori che, sia nella letteratura, nel cinema, alla TV o nei fumetti, hanno optato per il fantastico come mezzo di espressione privilegiato. Questo implica anche l’aumento significativo del numero di lettori e spettatori che consumano questo tipo di opere e, in diretta relazione, una maggiore attenzione al fantastico da parte degli editori, dei produttori cinematografici, televisivi e teatrali e, fenomeno inevitabile, anche dei critici. Non dimentico certo il decisivo influsso che hanno comportato, insieme alla letteratura, le fiction cinematografiche e televisive straniere, soprattutto statunitensi, che hanno trasformato il fantastico (e altri generi congiunti, come la fantascienza, l’horror o il fantasy) in un prodotto di consumo di massa. Il volume si apre con un saggio panoramico su sviluppo ed evoluzione del racconto fantastico nel XIX secolo, allo scopo di dimostrare l’esistenza di una lunga e ininterrotta tradizione e di comprendere i percorsi attraverso i quali si diramerà nel secolo successivo. Il medesimo taglio si potrà rinvenire negli articoli che hanno per oggetto la produzione narrativa di periodi particolari in cui il fantastico ha conosciuto un successo notevole: il Modernismo, gli anni ’60 e ’70, e il periodo che va dal 1980 ai nostri giorni. Questo gruppo di interventi incentrati sulla narrativa si completa con altri tre contributi in cui si disaminano, rispettivamente, l’opera di Cristina Fernández Cubas (attuale e maggiore maestra del fantastico), la storia e l’evolversi del racconto breve fantastico e l’opera delle autrici spagnole che hanno coltivato la fantascienza, con l’intento di rivendicare il proprio ruolo nella storia di tale genere. Il resto degli articoli di cui si compone la scelta propone altresì due itinerari rilevantissimi per due forme essenziali per la cultura del fantastico in Spagna: il cinema e la TV, rendendo evidente non solo l’importante produzione audiovisiva fantastica, ma anche la sua peculiare storia e trasformazione dalle origini fino alle manifestazioni più recenti. Infine va ricordato che questa monografia si inserisce nelle ricerche e nelle pubblicazioni realizzate dal Grupo de Estudios sobre lo Fantástico (GEF) della Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, diretto da David Roas e a cui appartengono i diversi specialisti che firmano gli articoli qui raccolti.
