Há um misterioso tesouro escondido no Saco do Sombrio em Ilhabela, São Paulo.No ano de 1524 o navegante português Aleixo Garcia partiu de Santa Catarina, seguindo o misterioso caminho do Peabiru, rumo ao Alto Peru em busca do ouro e prata dos Incas. Com a ajuda de milhares de ameríndios, Aleixo atacou e saqueou uma cidade perto de Potosí levando muito ouro e prata do rei inca Huayna Capac. Aleixo também roubou dos incas alguns objetos chamados 'máquinas de Viracocha', feitos de um metal desconhecido de cor avermelhada, que segundo os antigos jesuítas, pertenceram a uma civilização muito inteligente chamada por eles de 'Povo das Máquinas'. Durante a viagem de retorno, Aleixo Garcia e sua expedição foram mortos às margens do rio Paraguai pelos índios payaguá. Parte do tesouro foi parar nas mãos de alguns jesuítas estudiosos da matemática. O último guardião do tesouro dos incas e das máquinas de Viracocha foi um frade jesuíta chamado Gonçalo António, que vivia na Vila de Santos, capitania de São Vicente, no final do século dezesseis. No natal de 1591 a então Vila de Santos foi tomada e saqueada pelo corsário inglês Thomas Cavendish que roubou o tesouro dos incas e as máquinas de Viracocha que frei António escondia no mosteiro. Antes de seguir em sua viagem até o Estreito de Magalhães, Cavendish escondeu o tesouro na Ilha de São Sebastião (hoje município de Ilhabela). Milagrosamente frei António conseguiu encontrar o esconderijo onde o pirata Cavendish havia depositado o tesouro. Não podendo transportar as peças de volta para o vilarejo de Santos devido à quantidade, usando seus conhecimentos da Matemática, frei António escondeu o tesouro dentro de uma caverna, chamada de Itanhiã Kuara pelos índios tupinambás que na época habitavam a região. A caverna de Itanhiã Kuara fica próxima ao Saco do Sombrio, que é parte da baia de Castelhanos em Ilhabela, litoral de São Paulo. Frei António criou um engenhoso e enigmático roteiro trigonométrico que precisava ser desvendado para que o tesouro pudesse ser reencontrado. A maior parte do tesouro permaneceu escondido no Saco do Sombrio, por mais de quatrocentos anos.Finalmente, em outubro de 2009 o tesouro foi descoberto*1. Mas ainda existem muitos enigmas a serem desvendados.*1 O Livro O Tesouro do Sombrio é uma obra de ficção inspirada em fatos reais. É o resultado de mais de dois anos de estudos e aventuras em Ilhabela. Não é um relato da história e pesquisas de Paul Ferdinand Thiry*2.*2 É sabido que durante cerca de 40 anos um engenheiro, senhor Paul Ferdinand Thiry buscou em Ilhabela (Saco do Sombrio) um tesouro. Mostrando os resultados de suas pesquisas, o genial Thiry convenceu a Marinha do Brasil (Ministro Renato de Almeida Guillobel) que o tesouro da Trindade estava no Saco do Sombrio e uma missão oficial foi organizada para encontrar o tesouro. Com a ajuda principalmente de seu filho Roberto Thiry e depois de um advogado, Dr. Osmar Soalheiro, buscaram por décadas desvendar o enigma da Trindade e encontrar o tesouro do Sombrio. Every year, the World Bank’s World Development Report (WDR) features a topic of central importance to global development. The 2018 WDR—LEARNING to Realize Education’s Promise—is the first ever devoted entirely to education. And the time is right: education has long been critical to human welfare, but it is even more so in a time of rapid economic and social change. The best way to equip children and youth for the future is to make their learning the center of all efforts to promote education. The 2018 WDR explores four main themes: First, education’s promise: education is a powerful instrument for eradicating poverty and promoting shared prosperity, but fulfilling its potential requires better policies—both within and outside the education system. Second, the need to shine a light on learning: despite gains in access to education, recent learning assessments reveal that many young people around the world, especially those who are poor or marginalized, are leaving school unequipped with even the foundational skills they need for life. At the same time, internationally comparable learning assessments show that skills in many middle-income countries lag far behind what those countries aspire to. And too often these shortcomings are hidden—so as a first step to tackling this learning crisis, it is essential to shine a light on it by assessing student learning better. Third, how to make schools work for all learners: research on areas such as brain science, pedagogical innovations, and school management has identified interventions that promote learning by ensuring that learners are prepared, teachers are both skilled and motivated, and other inputs support the teacher-learner relationship. Fourth, how to make systems work for learning: achieving learning throughout an education system requires more than just scaling up effective interventions. Countries must also overcome technical and political barriers by deploying salient metrics for mobilizing actors and tracking progress, building coalitions for learning, and taking an adaptive approach to reform.

A powerful account of how coerced migration built the British Empire In the early seventeenth century, Britain took ruthless steps to deal with its unwanted citizens, forcibly removing men, women, and children from their homelands and sending them to far-flung corners of the empire to be sold off to colonial masters. This oppressive regime grew into a brutal system of human bondage which would continue into the twentieth century. Drawing on firsthand accounts, letters, and official documents, Graham Seal uncovers the traumatic struggles of those shipped around the empire. He shows how the earliest large-scale kidnapping and transportation of children to the American colonies were quickly bolstered with shipments of the poor, criminal, and rebellious to different continents, including Australia.
