Die Arbeit setzt sich mit der Auffassung auseinander, daß die frühen Dramen Arthur Schnitzlers zum Epischen tendierten, weil ihnen ein deterministisches Weltbild zugrunde liege. Schnitzlers theoretische Äußerungen, vor allem seine Aphorismen geben aber einen perspektivischen Schicksalsbegriff zu erkennen, der als eine Dialektik von Notwendigkeit und Möglichkeit Dramatik ermöglicht. Sofern die dramatische Bewegung an das Bewußtsein der Gestalten gebunden ist, wird die psychologische Ebene der Dramentexte bedeutsam. Das Psychologische verweist auf eine gesellschaftliche oder historische Wirklichkeit, die auf es zurückverweist. Indem das Milieu den Vorgang spiegelt, nimmt es an dessen Dynamik teil und wird zum dramatischen Bild. Und umgekehrt intensiviert es als dramatisches Bild die dramatische Struktur des Geschehens. Milieu und Geschehen, Bild und Struktur kommentieren sich gegenseitig. Die Einzelanalysen von vier ausgewählten Dramen, des dreiaktigen Schauspiels Das Märchen, der Szenenreihe Reigen, des Einakters Paracelsus und des fünfaktigen Schauspiels Der einsame Weg, zeigen, daß ein Zusammenhang zwischen Bild und Struktur besteht und den dramatischen Stil dieser psychologischen Dramen hervorbringt.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 1995 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,7, Technische Universität Berlin (Institut für Deutsche Philologie), Veranstaltung: Österreichische Dramatik von Hofmannsthal bis Bernhard, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Arthur Schnitzlers dramatischer Zyklus Anatol ist in der Regel von der Forschung als ein Werk behandelt worden, das aus selbständigen Einaktern besteht, die, um eine abendfüllende Länge zu erreichen, praktisch ohne jeden Zusammenhang, dadurch beliebig vertauschbar und reduzierbar, aneinandergereiht sind. Die Kritiker, allen voran Ernst L. Offermanns, der sich mit diesem Thema wahrscheinlich am ausgiebigsten beschäftigt hat, verweisen dabei auf die Austauschbarkeit von Anatols Partnerinnen, auf die Lebenseinstellung eines "impressionistischen Menschen" und nicht zuletzt auf die Erkenntnisse der Freudschen Psychoanalyse, deren "Entdeckung" der Desintegration des Ich sich auch in der literarischen Form niederschlägt. Ohne diese Aspekte zu bestreiten, möchte ich dennoch mit der vorliegenden Arbeit eine alternative Lesart darbieten, die das Werk in seiner Komplexität zeigt und dabei die Art und Weise hervorhebt, in der die einzelnen Teilstücke des Zyklus miteinander zusammenhängen. Im Mittelpunkt der Untersuchung steht die Problematik der Struktur. Von der Frage der Form ausgehend, werde ich versuchen, die Strukturelemente und Prinzipien zu erarbeiten, die dem Zyklus zugrunde liegen, ihm eine gewisse Kohärenz verleihen und ihn damit als ein Ganzes charakterisieren. Ausschlaggebend für diese Überlegungen ist die Tatsache, dass Schnitzler für die Buchveröffentlichung (1892) nicht nur eine Auswahl seiner Anatol-Stücke vorgenommen hat, sondern dass er sie auf eine Art und Weise geordnet hat, die nicht der Chronologie ihrer Entstehung entspricht. Über die Gründe, die ihn dazu bewogen, und über das Konzept, das er im Sinne gehabt haben mochte, lässt sich, soweit uns nicht eine Brief- oder Tagebuchäußerung vorliegt, nur spekulieren. Der uns vorliegenden Fassung lassen sich aber etliche Strukturprinzipien ablesen, die die Annahme, die einzelnen Szenen seien beliebig aneinandergereiht, "austauschbar wie die jeweilige Besetzung" in Frage stellen.
