Image Alignment and Stitching: A Tutorial reviews image alignment and image stitching algorithms. Image alignment algorithms can discover the correspondence relationships among images with varying degrees of overlap. They are ideally suited for applications such as video stabilization, summarization, and the creation of panoramic mosaics. Image stitching algorithms take the alignment estimates produced by such registration algorithms and blend the images in a seamless manner, taking care to deal with potential problems such as blurring or ghosting caused by parallax and scene movement as well as varying image exposures. Image Alignment and Stitching: A Tutorial reviews the basic motion models underlying alignment and stitching algorithms, describes effective direct (pixel-based) and feature-based alignment algorithms, and describes blending algorithms used to produce seamless mosaics. It closes with a discussion of open research problems in the area. Image Alignment and Stitching: A Tutorial is an invaluable resource for anyone planning or conducting research in this particular area, or computer vision generally. The essentials of the topic are presented in a tutorial style and an extensive bibliography guides towards further reading.

"This new volume discusses state-of-the-art deep learning techniques and approaches that can be applied in biomedical systems and health informatics. Deep learning in the biomedical field is an effective method of collecting and analyzing data that can be used for the accurate diagnosis of disease. This volume delves into a variety of applications, techniques, algorithms, platforms, and tools used in this area, such as image segmentation, classification, registration, and computer-aided analysis. The editors proceed on the principle that accurate diagnosis of disease depends on image acquisition and interpretation. There are many methods to get high resolution radiological images, but we are still lacking in automated image interpretation. Currently deep learning techniques are providing a feasible solution for automatic diagnosis of disease with good accuracy. Analyzing clinical data using deep learning techniques enables clinicians to diagnose diseases at an early stage and treat the patients more effectively. Chapters explore such approaches as deep learning algorithms, convolutional neural networks and recurrent neural network architecture, image stitching techniques, deep RNN architectures, and more. The volume also depicts how deep learning techniques can be applied for medical diagnostics of several specific health scenarios, such as cancer, COVID-19, acute neurocutaneous syndrome, cardiovascular and neuro diseases, skin lesions and skin cancer, etc. Key features: Introduces important recent technological advancements in the field Describes the various techniques, platforms, and tools used in biomedical deep learning systems Includes informative case studies that help to explain the new technologies Handbook of Deep Learning in Biomedical Engineering and Health Informatics provides a thorough exploration of biomedical systems applied with deep learning techniques and will provide valuable information for researchers, medical and industry practitioners, academicians, and students"--

The Distinguished Dissertation Series is published on behalf of the Conference of Professors and Heads of Computing and the British Computer Society, who annually select the best British PhD dissertations in computer science for publication. The dissertations are selected on behalf of the CPHC by a panel of eight academics. Each dissertation chosen makes a noteworthy contribution to the subject and reaches a high standard of exposition, placing all results clearly in the context of computer science as a whole. In this way computer scientists with significantly different interests are able to grasp the essentials - or even find a means of entry - to an unfamiliar research topic. This book investigates how information contained in multiple, overlapping images of a scene may be combined to produce images of superior quality. This offers possibilities such as noise reduction, extended field of view, blur removal, increased spatial resolution and improved dynamic range. Potential applications cover fields as diverse as forensic video restoration, remote sensing, video compression and digital video editing. The book covers two aspects that have attracted particular attention in recent years: image mosaicing, whereby multiple images are aligned to produce a large composite; and super-resolution, which permits restoration at an increased resolution of poor quality video sequences by modelling and removing imaging degradations including noise, blur and spacial-sampling. It contains a comprehensive coverage and analysis of existing techniques, and describes in detail novel, powerful and automatic algorithms (based on a robust, statistical framework) for applying mosaicing and super-resolution. The algorithms may be implemented directly from the descriptions given here. A particular feature of the techniques is that it is not necessary to know the camera parameters (such as position and focal length) in order to apply them. Throughout the book, examples are given on real image sequences, covering a variety of applications including: the separation of latent marks in forensic images; the automatic creation of 360 panoramic mosaics; and super-resolution restoration of various scenes, text, and faces in lw-quality video.

Step into a world of photography that most artists consider magical. The closer you get to things, the more fascinating they become. Unimaginable details can be captured with the aid of special photography techniques and equipment, detailed at length within these pages. Macro photographers play by a different rulebook. The challenges faced from the subject matter, the equipment and even the laws of physics make this an ambitious genre of photography. It can be abstract, it can tell stories, and it can spark your imagination. Author and “Mad Scientist” photographer Don Komarechka covers every area of macro photography, from simple beginnings and tips to help you get the most out of your first macro lens, all the way through a masterclass in the obscure. Topics include: - Redefining the rules of composition - Finding and exploring narratives we ignore - The challenges of magnification - Camera equipment choices and recommendations - Inexpensive ways to get “closer” - Controlling and sculpting light - Overcoming shallow focus - Using water droplets as lenses for enchanted refractions - The art of photographic discovery: “what if?” - Winter macro: snowflakes and freezing soap bubbles - Ultraviolet fluorescence macro - Stereoscopic 3D macro photography - MANY more topics down the rabbit hole
