Warring Visions written by Thy Phu and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-10-18 with Photography categories.

In Warring Visions, Thy Phu explores photography from dispersed communities throughout Vietnam and the Vietnamese diaspora, both during and after the Vietnam War, to complicate narratives of conflict and memory. While the visual history of the Vietnam War has been dominated by American documentaries and war photography, Phu turns to photographs circulated by the Vietnamese themselves, capturing a range of subjects, occasions, and perspectives. Phu's concept of warring visions refers to contrasts in the use of war photos in North Vietnam, which highlighted national liberation and aligned themselves with an international audience, and those in South Vietnam, which focused on family and everyday survival. Phu also uses warring visions to enlarge the category of war photography, a genre that usually consists of images illustrating the immediacy of combat and the spectacle of violence, pain, and wounded bodies. She pushes this genre beyond such definitions by analyzing pictures of family life, weddings, and other quotidian scenes of life during the war. Phu thus expands our understanding of how war is waged, experienced, and resolved.

Beyond Combat written by Heather Marie Stur and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-09-26 with History categories.

Beyond Combat investigates how the Vietnam War both reinforced and challenged the gender roles that were key components of American Cold War ideology. Refocusing attention onto women and gender paints a more complex and accurate picture of the war's far-reaching impact beyond the battlefields. Encounters between Americans and Vietnamese were shaped by a cluster of intertwined images used to make sense of and justify American intervention and use of force in Vietnam. These images included the girl next door, a wholesome reminder of why the United States was committed to defeating Communism, and the treacherous and mysterious 'dragon lady', who served as a metaphor for Vietnamese women and South Vietnam. Heather Stur also examines the ways in which ideas about masculinity shaped the American GI experience in Vietnam and, ultimately, how some American men and women returned from Vietnam to challenge homefront gender norms.

Vietnam Beyond By: Gerald E. Augustine “Vietnam Beyond” is not only a photographic accounting of a soldier’s time while serving in a front-line unit in the infantry; it is a study of human nature. When rank has its’ privileges, not only in the military, but in civilian life as well, you will learn how a person with “power’ will use this power to his advantage over someone at his most vulnerable time in their life. You will read how officers and sergeants use their rank to their benefit. You will also learn how attorneys and even a senator used the legal system to their advantage when having control over someone when he is most vulnerable. “Vietnam Beyond” is also a study of the criminal act of the spraying of herbicides by our government not only on the jungles of Vietnam, but on the civilians and our servicemen as well. The result tells of the after effects on the author and his family to this day. And most of all, “Vietnam Beyond” tells how a combat soldier endured traumatizing events that he brought home with him. Those events drive him to be the best that he can be at whatever he encounters and to continuously defeat those demons.

Vietnam And Beyond written by Stefania Ciocia and has been published by Liverpool University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-01-01 with Literary Criticism categories.

Vietnam and Beyond is a comprehensive, in-depth study of one of the most thought-provoking writers of the Vietnam War generation: Tim O'Brien. Through its thematic—rather than chronological—approach, this volume sets itself apart from previous readings of O'Brien's development as a trauma artist and an outspoken chronicler of American involvement in Vietnam. Stefania Ciocia highlights O'Brien's compelling preoccupation with the role and the ethical responsibility of the storyteller— with his clear privileging of “story truth” over “happening truth”—in order to make a bold statement about the power of fiction and narrative.

Images Of A Lengthy War written by Joel D. Meyerson and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1986 with History categories.

Images of a Lengthy War makes available for study and reference some of the important photographs of the Vietnam War, accompanied by brief narrative. The volume covers the three decades of the Army2s experience in Vietnam, from the early years of advice and support to the French government through active intervention with combat forces and gradual withdrawal. Many of the photographs were selected to show the complex nature of the war, in particular demands of conducting counterguerrilla operations while undertaking conventional campaigns against enemy regulars. While the focus of the work is the American military, policy decisions in Washington and political developments in Vietnam are also amply illustrated to place the war in context. As a unique form of evidence, the photographs are a valuable resource in recalling the look of Vietnam.

Ken Williamson's Saying Goodbye to Vietnam is an engrossing journey through recent history based on his personal experiences in that war-torn land. As a US Army photographer, his eye for poetic beauty infuses the powerful and sometimes haunting images he created there. Beyond the photographs, his eloquent description of that time and place relies heavily on excerpts from hundreds of personal letters to and from his wife back home. Williamson's approach is possibly unique in telling the story of this war. His book is a very good read that brings another and personal perspective to this troubled time. Saying Goodbye To Vietnam is 384 pages and contains over 400 original photographs and 65,000 words. The historical significance of this body of work cannot be overlooked.
