The book commences with a magnetic resonance-based review of the anatomy of the pelvic floor and an overview of how it functions; chapters on investigation and treatment then follow. The text is supported by sufficient clinical detail to enable radiologists to understand more clearly the context within which imaging technique selection and interpretation take place. Indeed, the spirit of interaction between clinicians and radiologists has been a guiding light for this book, and while the emphasis is radiological, much of the content will be of interest to clinicians desiring a better comprehension of functional disorders throughout the pelvis. It is hoped that this book will assist in drawing attention to the enormous potential of imaging to change our understanding and the treatment of pelvic floor disorders.

The book features new chapters on Vaginal mesh imaging, ultrasound of implanted material, pelvic floor trauma, and ultrasound in pelvic floor therapy. The reader will gain competence in performing transperineal, endovaginal and endoanal 3D/4D ultrasound evaluation of the pelvic floor including anal sphincter and levator ani complex. The text provides a basic understanding of how to perform a transperineal, an endovaginal and endoanal pelvic floor ultrasound and use the desktop 3D/4D softwares to obtain basic measurements. Concise textual information from acknowledged experts is complemented by high-quality diagrams and images to provide a thorough update of this rapidly evolving field. Introductory chapters fully elucidate the anatomical basis underlying disorders of the pelvic floor, followed by 1) 3D/4D transperineal imaging, 2) 3D endovaginal imaging of the urethra and the bladder, Levator ani muscles, the anorectal area, and 3) 3D endoanal imaging. Measurement protocols and case reviews are demonstrated at the conclusion. Written entirely by experts in their fields, the second edition of Practical Pelvic Floor Ultrasonography: A Multicompartmental Approach to 2D/3D/4D Ultrasonography of the Pelvic Floor is a comprehensive resource that will be of great value to urogynecologists, colorectal surgeons, obstetrician and gynecologists, female urologists, ultrasonographers, radiologists, physiotherapists, as well as fellows in urogynecology and colorectal surgery. /div

Pelvic Floor Ultrasound written by Lewis Chan and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-04-06 with Medical categories.

There is increasing interest in using ultrasound for assessment of pelvic floor disorders such as voiding dysfunction , pelvic organ prolapse and faecal incontinence. Ultrasound can also be a useful imaging modality for urodynamics and pelvic floor physiotherapy. Whilst ultrasound equipment is widely available around the world many clinicians may not have access to structured training in the technique of pelvic floor imaging and interpretation of images in the context of pelvic floor dysfunction. This book aims to provide the reader with the knowledge and skills to start utilising ultrasound imaging in assessment of pelvic floor disorders. The authors comprise the three surgical disciplines (urology, colorectal surgery and gynaecology) who commonly manage pelvic floor problems and have subspecialty expertise in pelvic floor imaging. They have conducted workshops in Australia, Asia, UK and USA and are advocates for clinican-performed ultrasound.

Pelvic floor disorders, which include urinary and fecal incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, are highly prevalent conditions in women. In the United States alone, this affects almost 25% of women. These disorders often affect women's daily life activities, their sexual function, their ability to exercise, and their social and psychological life. Pelvic floor disorders are usually diagnosed clinically, but in complicated cases, pelvic imaging and electromyographic studies may be required. This book attempts to discuss the pathophysiology of pelvic floor disorders, its treatment by the use of a new synthetic material, and treatment for recurrent POP. Although there are many books available on this topic, it includes some of the original research work and surgical innovation. We would like to acknowledge all the authors for their hard work in completing this book.

Ultrasound has replaced X-ray as the main imaging modality for the diagnosis of pelvic floor disorders in women. It now enables a cost-effective and non-invasive demonstration of bladder neck and pelvic organ mobility, vaginal, urethral and levator ani function and anatomy, and anorectal anatomy. Atlas of Pelvic Floor Ultrasound provides an introduction to pelvic floor imaging as well as a resource to be used during initial and more advanced practice.

This excellent textbook provides up-to-date information on all aspects of pelvic floor disorders. After an opening section on anatomy and physiology, it explains the methodology, role and application of the integrated imaging approach in detail, including the most advanced 3D, 4D, and dynamic ultrasound techniques, illustrated with hundreds of images. It then discusses in depth the epidemiology, etiology, assessment, and management of the full range of pelvic floor disorders from multidisciplinary and practical perspectives. The book also provides information on the various forms of obstetric perineal trauma, urinary incontinence and voiding dysfunction, anal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, constipation and obstructed defecation, pelvic pain and sexual dysfunction, and fistulas, and includes treatment algorithms as well as helpful guidance on what to do when surgical treatment goes wrong. The authors are leading experts in the field from around the globe. Imaging is now central to the investigation and management of anorectal and pelvic floor disorders. This has been brought about by technical developments in imaging, notably, three-dimensional ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which allow high anatomical resolution and tissue differentiation to be presented in a most usable fashion. Three-dimensional endosonography in anorectal conditions and MRI in anal fistula are two obvious developments, but there are others, with dynamic st- ies of the pelvic floor using both ultrasound and MRI coming to the fore. This atlas provides an easy way to gain a detailed understanding of imaging in this field. The atlas is divided into four sections covering the basic anatomy, anal/perianal disease, rectal/perirectal disease and functional assessment. One of the difficulties with developing an atlas is to strike the right balance - tween text and images. Too much text and it is not an atlas; too little text and the - ages may not be understood. The editors of this atlas are to be congratulated on achi- ing an appropriate balance. The images are all that one expects from an atlas, and the diagrams are excellent. The commentaries at the end of invited chapters are a valuable addition, placing what are relatively short, focussed chapters into context. They add balance and depth to the work and are well worth reading.
