Organizations rely extensively upon a myriad of images and pictorial representations such as budgets, schedules, reports, graphs, and organizational charts to name but a few. Visual images play an integral role in the process of organizing. This volume argues that images in organizations are ‘performative’, meaning that they can be seen as performances, rather than mere representations, that play a significant role in all kind of organizational activities. Imagining Organizations opens up new ways of imagining business through an interdisciplinary approach that captures the role of visualizations and their performances. Contributions to this volume challenge this orthodox view to explore how images in business, organizing and organizations are viewed in a static and rigid form. Imagining Business addresses the question of how we visualize organizations and their activities as an important aspect of managerial work, focusing on practices and performances, organizing and ordering, and media and technologies. Moreover, it aims to provide a focal point for the growing collection of studies that explore how various business artifacts draw on the power of the visual to enable various forms of organizing and organizations in diverse contexts.

Insight And Imagination written by Howard F. Stein and has been published by University Press of America this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Business & Economics categories.

Insight and Imagination explores the primacy of the self in organizational research, consulting, and management/leadership. Contesting the radical dichotomy between "objective" and "subjective" understanding, and the devaluation of the latter, Professor Howard F. Stein argues that the imagination of the observer, informed by his or her unconscious, can lead to a greater understanding of the psychological reality of the workplace and in turn to better informed problem solving. Insight emerges from the disciplined use of the imagination rather than its repudiation. The book brings countertransference to center stage as a tool for understanding the emotional experience of organizational life and for formulating interventions. One often neglected use of the imagination is the capacity to not have to know beforehand what one needs to learn-what poet John Keats called "negative capability." Insight and Imagination proposes the use of the humanities as a means of expanding and deepening one's access to the inner life of organizations. The author draws from the art created by others and from his own poetry written and often used during an organizational consultation. Among the specific contexts discussed in this book are the experience of organizational downsizing; helping organizations to grieve after change and loss; recognizing "red herrings" in organizational decision making; the language of organizational change; recognizing hidden agendas in meetings; and reflective practice in organizational life. The Business of Possibility reveals the potential we hold to create a paradigm shift in organisations. It gets to the heart of the matter in what makes any organisation – for profit or not for profit – rise above the many. It may be the first truly ground-breaking work since the book by Peters and Waterman - In Search of Excellence - almost 40 years ago. This is a guide. It points to and explains the shift organisational leaders - and the influential - must make to create thriving and thus sustainable organisations. That is, if they want to both survive and thrive in this new world, we have created. It demands that you take your own journey of deepening or re-discovering your innate transformative state – your unique state of Possibility. Seeing Possibility is the superhighway we travel along when seeing and manifesting any transformative idea. It leads to a transformed life and relationships – this critical ingredient is exposed in transforming your life and relationships – the pathway to transform organisations. In this guide, John recounts instances from his life of seeing Possibility, the impact these instances had on his business, as well as on the lives of many of his colleagues and clients. He explains how you too can see Possibility; what it might and might not be; the benefit of letting go of thinking you know ‘the truth’ of anything; the freedom that seeing Possibility can give you; and how, when seen, it can re-cast how you see life, and re-shape your communications, relationships, business, family and vocational life for your own benefit and for the benefit of the common good. In seeing Possibility, you – like John – can see a world in which we are kind and understanding towards one another, where a sense of fairness and decency govern all our decisions at work and at play. A world in which wisdom and common sense prevail as reality - not simply in the realm of a wistful ideas. The business of possibility guides you on a journey that will benefit all of us.
