Excerpt from Imperial Germany The series of chapters which he devotes to foreign policy is in fact a defence of welt-politik. It is a defence which is necessary; for welt-politik meant in his eyes the building of the German Fleet, and the German Fleet, with its avowed challenge to the secular policy of Great Britain, meant the estrangement of England and Germany, and as has now been made clear to all, the estrangement from England meant the almost complete isolation of Germany in Europe. Excerpt from Imperial Germany: A Critical Study of Fact and Character It has not been my aim in this book on "Imperial Germany" to dwell on the material aspects of German life, except indirectly and when they are the cause or result of something deeper. This I have endeavoured to present without bias with its advantages and its drawbacks - viz., the general character, ethical and aesthetical, of the great people to whom we are allied by ties of blood as well as by tradition. I have not attempted to write an all-round book on Germany, such as Mr. Escott's comprehensive work on England, but I have examined some of the leading characteristics of Germany and its people, observed by myself during a long residence in the country. If I only succeed in inspiring a few of my readers with an increased interest in the great Teutonic nation, whose power in our day is one of the safest guarantees of European peace, I shall not have laboured in vain. Some of my conclusions may at first sight appear contradictory, but on a topic like the present one much, of course, depends upon the standpoint you take in viewing it. It has been my aim to speak the truth fearlessly. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Imperial Germany and the Industrial Revolution There is of course no intention here to impart in formation on the history of this period, whether political or economic; and the historical information made use of as material for argument is of the com monplace kind familiar by common notoriety or from the standard manuals accessible to all readers. Any thing like a comprehensive citation of sources and authorities has accordingly been dispensed with, though citations and references covering given points have been brought in where special occasion appeared to call for it. The argument runs between the lines of the histories, as conventionally written, and does not lean on recondite material or niceties of detail. Excerpt from The German Whisper Mr. Citizen, you are now on the firing line. Imperial Germany is not merely attacking on the western front. She is attacking in every community in the United States. Her assault is under the direction of the German general staff. It has been prepared as carefully as the strategy and tactics of a military drive. As in Russia and in Italy, so here also a campaign of German propaganda - a gas attack of poisonous lies and rumors and false reports - has been launched successfully and is now under way. The collapse of Russia was not a victory for German arms. It was a triumph of German propaganda. And the defeat of the Italian armies was achieved only after German agents, working with rumors, slanders, counterfeit newspapers, forged letters, and all the other weapons of German treachery, had opened an impregnable Italian position to the successful assault of an inferior German force. America is now the strongest enemy that Germany has. A weakening of our public morale is as necessary to German success as the weakening of Russia's was. And the attempt to weaken us has already developed two main lines of movement. The fust aims to destroy our unity of action with our allies by setting us against the French, the British, and the Japanese. The second proposes to destroy our domestic unity by encouraging among us every sort of class dissension, religious difference, racial prejudice, and political quarrel. Excerpt from Imperial Germany: A Lecture This events associated with the foundation and development of the new German Empire constitute the most important episode in the history of Europe since the fall of Napoleon. They stand as the culmination of a series of events beginning with the Prussian reaction against French domination in 1813. To be understood, they must be viewed in the light of the failure of the arrangement effected by the Congress of Vienna, and of the more or less aimless struggles embraced under the general designation of the Revolution of 1848. Twelve Years At The Imperial German Court Classic Reprint written by Count Robert Zedlitz-Trutzschler and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-07-10 with History categories.

Excerpt from Twelve Years at the Imperial German Court The Memoirs of Count Zedlitz-Trutzschler deserve a place of their own in the already voluminous literature about William II. It may confidently be predicted that they will be the standard authority on the subject, and indispensable to the future historian. The value of the book lies chiefly in its artlessness. The writer tells quite simply what he saw and heard, without any attempt at literary artifice, and therefore produces a consistent picture which possibly the most consummate skill could not have achieved. The effect is what may be called cumulative. It is not a single incident which impresses the reader, but the long series of episodes, slight in themselves, which show how - slowly but surely - the worse elements in the Emperor's nature gained the upper hand, how they reacted on his surroundings, and how tragically the circumstances of the time in turn reacted on him. The writer is scrupulously impartial; he tells of the good and the evil in William II. While in the early days of his life at Court he was - like everybody else - dazzled by the brilliant personality of the Emperor, in the end his feelings had undergone a complete revulsion. Excerpt from Inside the German Empire: In the Third Year of the War Throughout the world there is, and should be, deep interest in the conditions - economic, political, spiritual and military - under which Germany and her allies are sustaining themselves after more than two years of war. The facts and impressions contained in this book, gathered first-hand by the author, whose friendship I value and whose professional equipment I admire, form an important contribution to contemporaneous history and possess a referential value for the future. No subject to-day is more vital or worthier of serious attention. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The German Empire, Vol. 1 of 2: 1867-1914, and the Unity Movement IT has been my desire to make this survey of the modern political history of Germany something more than a compendium of facts or a work of reference, and the public which I have had in mind in writing it is less the limited circle of scholars and students than those general readers, the number of whom, one may believe, is steadily increasing, who wish to form their opinions on foreign politics independently, intelligently, and therefore on adequate information.
