This exciting new book examines the feasibility of using a method of doubling the capacity of cellular networks by simultaneously transmitting and receiving signals at the same frequency, a process known as full duplexing (FD). To realize full duplexing, changes in the hardware of the cell- base stations, relaying equipment, “hot spot” access points and mobile phones are necessary to prevent the hardware’s transmitters from interfering with their own receivers. This requires looking at how to separate the strong transmitted signal from the very weak received signal, a process requiring both hardware (analog) changes and more complex digital signal processing. Different ways of achieving that goal are examined. The books reviews the merits of hardware changes involving new duplexing components that may be different depending on the frequency band and cell hardware being used. Developing full duplex (FD) systems in 5G LTE cellular communications and what can be achieved with ferrite-based circulators in terms of size reduction and performance enhancement, especially at millimetric frequencies, is considered. The relative merits of ferrite and non-ferrite circulators are compared in terms of their fundamental materials and device technologies, such as isolation, insertion loss, bandwidth and non-linearity. FD in the entire 5G cell is also examined and its resulting range of equipment and device communication. This includes front-hauling, more sophisticated back and front-hauling, backhaul beam switching, and cell extenders and relays, all of which could involve FD.

Many wireless systems could benefit from the ability to transmit and receive on the same frequency at the same time, which is known as In-Band Full-Duplex (IBFD). This technology could lead to enhanced spectral efficiency for future wireless networks, such as fifth-generation New Radio (5G NR) and beyond, and could enable capabilities and applications that were previously considered impossible, such as IBFD with phased array systems. In this exciting new book, experts from industry, academic, and federal research institutions discuss the various approaches that can be taken to suppress the inherent self-interference that is generated in IBFD systems. Both static and adaptive techniques that span across the propagation, analog and digital domains are presented. Details and measured results that encompass high-isolation antenna designs, RF, and photonic cancellation as well as signal processing approaches, which include beamforming and linear/non-linear equalization are detailed. Throughout this book, state-of-the-art IBFD systems that utilize these technologies will be provided as practical examples for various applications. Expert IBFD perspectives from multiple research organizations and companies, which would provide readers with the most accurate state-of-the-art approaches. This is the first book that dives into both the techniques that make IBFD systems possible as well as several different applications that use IBFD technology.

This book thoroughly examines the design of full-duplex medium access control (MAC) protocols in wireless networks. It is organized into three main sections: (a) Fundamentals and preliminaries of full-duplex communications, (b) A comprehensive review of the existing full-duplex MAC protocols, and (c) Designs of full-duplex MAC protocols in three typical wireless networks, i.e., wireless local access networks (WLANs), multi-hop networks and millimeter-wave networks. Also, the authors extensively address key challenges in these three wireless full-duplex networks, such as the hidden-node problem, accumulative interference, and deafness and blockage problems. Solutions to these challenges are meticulously devised to enhance the overall network performance. The wireless full-duplex communication technique, facilitating simultaneous transmission and reception within the same frequency band, holds immense potential for enhancing spectrum efficiency and network capacity. It emerges as a pivotal technology in the sixth-generation (6G) networks. This book provides a comprehensive review and in-depth exploration of full-duplex MAC design across various networks, encompassing WLANs, multi-hop networks, and millimeter-wave networks. Acknowledging the challenges faced by full-duplex WLANs, particularly the hidden-node problem, it also introduces a pioneering hidden-node-free design and a MAC protocol design, which features a full-duplex enhanced carrier-sensing mechanism. Addressing the need to augment end-to-end throughput in multi-hop networks employing full-duplex relaying, the authors present an analytical model for end-to-end throughput and propose a multi-hop full-duplex MAC protocol designed to optimize network performance. Furthermore, the exploration extends to full-duplex millimeter-wave networks, delving into issues of deafness and blockage. A directional full-duplex MAC protocol is introduced to enhance network capacity and mitigate blockage problems. This book concludes by outlining prospective research directions within the related fields of study and offers valuable insights for future exploration. This book targets researchers and advanced level students in computer science and electrical engineering. It also caters to professionals engaged in the fields of wireless networks, full-duplex system, protocol design, and network optimization will also buy this book.

The societal reliance upon wireless systems continues to rise due to mobile data interchange. A closer look at the current allocation of 38 GHz 5G Cellular is desperately pointing to, and suggesting the crowding of the frequency spectrum. Therefore this study explores visible light communication as one of the emerging technologies to help meet up with these challenges. The Visible Light Communication (VLC) refers to the communication technology which utilizes the visible light source as a signal transmitter, the air as a transmission medium, and the appropriate photodiode as a signal receiving component. This study appraises the extant literature on Solid State Lighting (SSL), with emphasis on Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). The study highlights the weaknesses of the existing system, the advantages and the significance of the new system using prototype methodology. The study focused on the design and implementation of Visible Light Communication (VLC) circuit for wireless data transmission by designing an analog circuit to integrate with a computer or mobile phone, and then sending some form of data using visible light LEDs from a transmitter, and decoding it with a receiver. The design adopted Beagle-Bone-Black (BBB) as development platform and the circuit was tested with Proteus 8 Professional and data sent reliably and accurately over a short distance at a fair speed which ensures that the initial goals for the functionality of this new system which includes being able to send audio, text or pictures over a distance of approximately 10 meter at a data rate of at least 10 Mbps was achieved. The study shows that visible light communication has the potential to provide high speed data communication with improved energy efficiency and communication security/privacy due to its unique characteristics and advantages. Also, Visible Light Communication can complement the RF-based mobile communication systems in designing high-capacity mobile data networks and can be incorporated in the next generation 5G network. The study therefore recommends error control mechanism and Dimming Support to be integrated in the subsequent studies.

Signal Processing Techniques For Power Efficient Wireless Communication Systems written by Fernando Gregorio and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-23 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book presents a synthesis of the research carried out in the Laboratory of Signal Processing and Communications (LaPSyC), CONICET, Universidad Nacional del Sur, Argentina, since 2003. It presents models and techniques widely used by the signal processing community, focusing on low-complexity methodologies that are scalable to different applications. It also highlights measures of the performance and impact of each compensation technique. The book is divided into three parts: 1) basic models 2) compensation techniques and 3) applications in advanced technologies. The first part addresses basic architectures of transceivers, their component blocks and modulation techniques. It also describes the performance to be taken into account, regardless of the distortions that need to be compensated. In the second part, several schemes of compensation and/or reduction of imperfections are explored, including linearization of power amplifiers, compensation of the characteristics of analog-to- digital converters and CFO compensation for OFDM modulation. The third and last part demonstrates the use of some of these techniques in modern wireless-communication systems, such as full-duplex transmission, massive MIMO schemes and Internet of Things applications.
