In december 1444 werd buiten de Amersfoortse Kamperpoort een beeldje van Onze Lieve Vrouw onder het ijs gevonden. Zodra het was ‘gered’, vonden wonderen plaats die aan dit beeldje werden toegeschreven. De geruchten daarover verspreidden zich als een lopend vuurtje. Een eeuw lang voltrokken zich nog veel meer mirakelen. Daarvan zijn er 542 schriftelijk overgeleverd, als korte verhaaltjes die alle aspecten van het leven raken. De tekst daarvan is bewaard in drie handschriften uit het begin van de zeventiende eeuw. Een van die handschriften werd vervaardigd op verzoek van Heribert Rosweyde, een van oorsprong Utrechtse, geleerde jezuïet die in Antwerpen informatie verzamelde over het katholieke geloofsleven in de noordelijke Nederlanden. Dit boek biedt een editie en een hertaling in modern Nederlands van het Amersfoortse Mirakelboek, samen met het dossier van Rosweyde. De inleiding geeft een beeld van de historische en religieuze context.

"The geochemistry of chlorine isotopes" describes Hans Eggenkamp's studies to obtain his PhD degree at Utrecht University. It describes methods to measure stable chlorine isotope variations in different types of natural samples, theoretical fractionation as the result of diffusion and about ten case studies showing chlorine isotope fractionation in natural systems. In these case studies it was discovered that chlorine stable isotopes fractionate only little, although systematically, in processes such as salt precipitation and diffusion. Variations found in natural samples reflect as such in most cases processes that take place within (larger) reservoirs. The main purpose of the project was to develop procedures to measure stable chlorine isotope compositions in different sample types and to study variations therein. The study gives a good overview of the knowledge on stable chlorine isotope geochemistry at the moment of its original publication in 1994.

Over the last couple of decades there has been a strong academic interest in how individuals interact with each other while en route. Yet, even if various studies have informed us about present-day realities of travel companionships, we know little about the influence of gender both on these realities, as well as on the discourse in which these are being narrated. This book aims to establish an agenda for the study of companionship in travel writing by offering a collection of new essays which study texts that belong to the broad category of pre-modern and modern travel literature. Chapters explore the differences and similarities in the ways that women and men in the past chose to describe their experiences with, and/or their ideas about companionship, and specifically reveals the influence of gender norms, conventions, restrictions, and stereotypes. This is the first book which looks at the long-term, interdisciplinary, and genuinely international history of gendered discourses on companionship in travel writing. Analyzing the changing functions, outlooks, and meanings of devotional objects – monumental sacrament houses, cult statues and altarpieces, and small votive offerings or relics – Ruben Suykerbuyk revises dominant narratives about Catholic culture and patronage in the Low Countries.
