In a conversation about youth agency, the most common discourses that come up are of acts of liberation, resistance, and deviance. However, this perspective is fairly narrow and runs the risk of reinforcing pervasive and often polarizing depictions of youth. In order to broaden the understanding of young people's collective actions and their potential social implications, it is necessary to ask: What types of agency do young people demonstrate? This book aims to scrutinize some of the conceptual ideas that underlie prevalent visions of youth as agents of social change and as a source of hope for a better future. As a part of the Education and Society in South Asia series, it provides insightful accounts of students' daily routines on and around a public university campus in Kathmandu, Nepal, and calls attention to a group of non-elite university students who have remained less visible in scholarly and public debates about student activism, youth unemployment, and international migration. By placing different strands of literature on youth, aspiration, and mobility into conversation, In Search of a Future unveils new and important perspectives on how young people navigate competing social expectations, educational inequalities, and limited job prospects.

Mainly focusing on the transition in national identity experienced during the last years of Lee Teng-hui's tenure as President of Taiwan, ten essays, presented by Corcuff (Asian politics and Chinese language, U. de la Rochelle, France) explore how residents of Taiwan have begun to differentiate themselves from China in the past two decades. After exploring some of the historical roots of national identity, essays explore the symbolic representations of nationhood, the political constraints imposed by Chinese policy, the effect of political ideologies, and the relationship of national identity with processes of democratization. Crisis? Whose crisis? Today we are in the midst of a multifaceted crisis which touches the lives of everyone on the planet. Whether it's growing poverty and inequality or shrinking access to food and water, the collapse of global financial markets or the dire effects of climate change, every aspect of this crisis can be traced to a transnational neoliberal elite that has steadily eroded our rights and stripped us of power. And yet our world has never been so wealthy, and we have, right now, all the knowledge, tools and skills we need to build a greener, fairer, richer world. Such a breakthrough is not some far-fetched utopia, but an immediate, concrete possibility. Our future is in our hands.

The Search For Al Qaeda written by Bruce Riedel and has been published by Brookings Institution Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-12-01 with Political Science categories.

Al Qaeda is the most dangerous terrorist movement in history. Yet most people in the Americas and Europe know very little about it, or their view is clouded by misperceptions and half truths. If the first rule of war is to “know your enemy,” then we have a long way to go. This important book fills this gap with a comprehensive analysis of al Qaeda—the origins, leadership, ideology, and strategy of the terrorist network that brought down the Twin Towers and continues to threaten us today. Bruce Riedel is an expert on the Middle East and South Asia, with thirty years of intelligence and policymaking experience. He was actually in the White House Situation Room during the 9/11 attacks, serving as special assistant to the president and National Security Council senior director for Near East Affairs. He draws on this insider experience in profiling the four most important figures in the al Qaeda movement: Osama bin Laden, its creator and charismatic leader; ideologue Ayman Zawahiri, its Egyptian coleader and principal spokesman; Abu Musaib al Zarqawi, leader of al Qaeda in Iraq until his death in 2006; and Mullah Omar, its Taliban host. These profiles provide the base from which Riedel delivers a much clearer understanding of al Qaeda and what must be done to counter it. The Search for al Qaeda reviews how al Qaeda was created and developed, presenting authoritative and chilling background on “The Manhattan Raid,” but Riedel focuses more closely on what has happened to it since that awful day. He outlines al Qaeda’s ultimate goals, which are to drive America out of the Muslim world, to destroy Israel, and to create a jihadist caliphate larger than the Ottoman Empire at its height. The profiles and subsequent analysis reveal the network’s multipronged strategy for accomplishing those goals: • Draw America into “bleeding wars” like the one that drove the Soviets from Afghanistan. • Build a safe haven for al Qaeda in Pakistan. • Develop other “franchises” in the Islamic world that can overthrow pro-American regimes. • Conduct more Western attacks along the lines of 9/11 or the transit bombings in Madrid and London. The book concludes with a strategy for dealing with—and defeating—this most dangerous menace.

The Future Of Search Engines written by Maria Johnsen and has been published by Maria Johnsen this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-02-11 with Computers categories.

In "The Future of Search Engines," I continue the investigation I began in my previous work, "The Search Engine Revolution," providing a detailed forecast of what lies ahead. In this book, I explore how search engines will evolve in the future, drawing on my track record of predicting technological advancements. My predictions are not just guesses; they're based on current trends and supported by real-world evidence that has consistently proven accurate. For example, I warned last year about the risks of relying too heavily on AI-generated content for SEO and digital marketing, a caution that has been validated by subsequent updates to Google's algorithms favoring human-generated content. Picture a fleet of sleek, voice-controlled search drones elegantly maneuvering through the physical world, ready to quickly gather information and respond to user queries with remarkable efficiency. This isn't just a fantasy; it's a compelling vision of where search technology is headed. These search drones represent a significant shift, seamlessly connecting the digital world with physical reality. Imagine strolling through a bustling city, curious about the history of a famous landmark. With a simple voice command, a nearby drone swoops in, providing a wealth of information instantly. From historical facts to real-time updates, these drones redefine how we access information about our surroundings, essentially turning the world into a readily available database of knowledge. It's important to note that by "drones," I mean smaller, drone-like devices, not the larger drones commonly used today. But why limit our search endeavors to Earth? The future of exploration reaches far beyond our planet. There's speculation about search networks expanding into space, allowing us to explore the mysteries of distant galaxies. As humanity's desire for discovery drives us toward the stars, these networks have the potential to unravel the universe's secrets. Imagine a future where communication with extraterrestrial beings is possible, enabling the exchange of knowledge across vast cosmic distances. I delve into this concept further in my books "The Cosmos" and "Searching for Aliens on Earth and in the Cosmos." While some contemporary scientists may argue for humanity's uniqueness in the universe, the future could offer a different perspective. Remember how Galileo's support for the heliocentric model challenged the prevailing belief in a geocentric universe, leading to his condemnation by the Inquisition. It serves as a reminder that anything is possible. This exciting prospect sparks our imagination and fuels our unending quest for knowledge. At the core of these visionary concepts lies an unwavering commitment to progress. Technological advancements continue to dazzle, offering increasingly sophisticated tools for information retrieval. From AI-powered computing to advanced data analysis, our arsenal of search capabilities has never been more potent. Yet, perhaps the most remarkable aspect of this technological revolution is its inherent simplicity. Gone are the days of cumbersome search engines and endless scrolling; searching becomes intuitive and seamless, seamlessly woven into the fabric of our daily lives. Looking forward, one thing remains abundantly clear: the boundless potential of search technology knows no bounds. It's a journey fueled by innovation, curiosity, and an unwavering determination to unearth answers. So, as we venture forth into uncharted territory, let's embrace the notion that this is just the beginning. With each groundbreaking idea and monumental stride, we edge closer to a future where finding answers is as effortless as posing a question. I hope you enjoy reading this book.
