The collection of texts focuses on a wide range of topics, including teacher education in a cross-cultural context, the notion of unsuccessful teaching, democratic teacher education, the reflective teacher, the ethics and politics of teacher identity, and subjectivity and performance in teaching. This collection of essays analyzes shifting notions of self as represented in films and novels written and produced in Spain in the twenty-first century. In doing so, the anthology establishes an international dialogue of multicultural perspectives on trends in contemporary Spain, and serves as a useful reference for scholars and students of Spanish literature and cinema. The primary avenues of exploration include representations of recovery in post-crisis Spain, marginalized texts and identities, silenced subjectivities, intersecting relationships, and spaces of desire and control. The individual chapters focus on major events, such as the global economic crisis, the tension between majority and minority cultures within Spain, and the ongoing repercussions of past trauma and historical memory. In doing so, they build upon theories of identity, subjectivity, gender, history, memory, and normativity.

The fiction of French post-colonial writer Paule Constant is remarkable in its lurid and disturbing portrayals of female characters suffering in profoundly oppressive 'colonizing' circumstances. In In Search of Shelter: Subjectivity and Spaces of Loss in the Fiction of Paule Constant, author Margot Miller skillfully synthesizes Karen Horney's model of submission, aggression and withdrawal, Jean Baker Miller's concept of relational being, Julia Kristeva's idea of psychic space, and Kelly Oliver's notions on social support to analyze Constant's work. Miller's close reading also brings to light previously unnoticed mythological references in Constant's fiction which illuminate the characters' psychological realities, and examines Constant's nuanced treatment of violence through language. In Search of Shelter: Subjectivity and Spaces of Loss in the Fiction of Paule Constant reveals the myriad intersections of interpersonal and cognitive psychology, mythological and cultural awareness, literature, and lived experience, and suggests new ways of reading these and other works of fiction.

Consciousness And Subjectivity written by Sofia Miguens and has been published by Walter de Gruyter this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-02 with Philosophy categories.

Issues of subjectivity and consciousness are dealt with in very different ways in the analytic tradition and in the idealistic–phenomenological tradition central to continental philosophy. This book brings together analytically inspired philosophers working on the continent with English-speaking philosophers to address specific issues regarding subjectivity and consciousness. The issues range from acquaintance and immediacy in perception and apperception, to the role of agency in bodily ‘mine-ness’, to self-determination (Selbstbestimmung) through (free) action. Thus involving philosophers of different traditions should yield a deeper vision of consciousness and subjectivity; one relating the mind not only to nature, or to first-person authority in linguistic creatures–questions which, in the analytic tradition, are sometimes treated as exhausting the topic–but also to many other aspects of mind’s understanding of itself in ways which disrupt classic inner/outer boundaries.

"While the writing of Carlo Emilio Gadda (1893-1973) is renowned for its linguistic and narrative proliferation, the best-known works of Samuel Beckett (1906-89) are minimalist, with a clear fondness for subtraction and abstraction. Despite these face-value differences, a close reading of the two authors' early prose writings reveals some surprisingly affinitive concerns, rooted in their profoundly troubled relationship with the literary medium and an unceasing struggle for expression of an incoherent reality and a similarly unfathomable self. Situating Gadda and Beckett at the heart of the debate of late European modernism, this study not only contests the position of'insularity' frequently ascribed to both authors by critical consensus, but it also rethinks some of Gadda's plurilingual and macaronic features by situating them in the context of the turn-of-the-century Sprachkrise, or crisis of language. In a close analysis of the primary texts which engages with the latest findings in empirical research, Wehling-Giorgi casts fresh light on the central notions of textual and linguistic fragmentation and provides a new post-Lacanian analysis of the fractured self in Gadda's and Beckett's narrative."

Subjectivity written by Willem van Reijen and has been published by Rodopi this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Art categories.

Subjectivity is one of the central issues of twentieth-century philosophy, literature and art. Modernism, which "discovered" the subconscious, put an end to the belief in the Cartesian Subject as the autonomous centre of knowledge and self-consciousness. Instead, the subject became something uncontrollable, unreliable, incomplete and fragmentary. The attempts to recapture the unity of the subject led to the existential quest and the flight into ideology (nazism, communism). Postmodernism, the cultural movement of the second half of the twentieth century, did not consider the subject any longer as an important category. Attention was focused on the "I" and the "Other", on dialogism and polyphonism (Bakhtin). Ideology lost its appeal and so did the "great" stories (Lyotard). In this issue of Avant-Garde Critical Studies the problem of subjectivity in twentieth-century culture is discussed from various angles by specialists in the field of philosophy, literature, film, music and dance.
