In the tiny town of Titan Falls, New Hampshire, the paper mill dictates a quiet, steady rhythm of life. But one day a tragic bus accident sets two families on a course toward destruction, irrevocably altering the lives of everyone in their wake. June McAllister is the wife of the local mill owner and undisputed first lady in town. But the Snow family, a group of itinerant ne'er-do-wells who live on a decrepit and cursed property, have brought her--and the town--nothing but grief. June will do anything to cover up a dark secret she discovers after the crash, one that threatens to upend her picture-perfect life, even if it means driving the Snow family out of town. But she has never gone up against a force as fierce as the young Mercy Snow. Mercy is determined to protect her rebellious brother, whom the town blames for the accident, despite his innocence. And she has a secret of her own. When an old skeleton is discovered not far from the crash, it beckons Mercy to solve a mystery buried deep within the town's past.

I rarely read poetry anymore, but I am bedazzled by Balise's mastery of the craft. Her collection is filled with precision-cut gems that are worthy of reading over and over. In "Moon Metal," her command of language is exquisite; her marriage of sense and soul, perfect. I don't even like jazz, but Liz's "Jazz Virgin" is a brilliant, sensuous, and evocative narrative put to music: ". . . Soaked with chords and wonder / I never hear him coming / Miles takes his time. . . ." What an ending - intoxicating synesthesia and ambiguity. In her laconic "Milky Way Moment," it is her first line which pulls me in: "Seldom seen in the stew of Scranton skies." After that, she takes readers on to the stars, while I was expecting only smog. Another short verse, "Nap," is as innovative as wordsmithing gets - who would have predicted the use of mourning doves and blue jays to fly on the edge of this dreamy piece? In her eulogy to Henrietta Swan, Liz speaks to her subject, though not in a lugubrious voice - perhaps one that can only be described as transcendent, an adjective I believe applies to every work I have read by this fine poet. -Jim Cunningham, author of Reel Stories. . . Short Stories, Flash Fiction. . . (Coyote Country Publications) Liz Balise's poetry captures the richness of both the natural world and human life in language that is unaffecting, reflective, and unflinching. Too often emerging writers offer free verse that seems scattershot and dashed-off with no real consideration of line breaks and rhythm. Liz creates well-developed poems that are as skillfully woven as a fine tapestry of museum quality. Her breadth of subject matter and tone as well as her eye for details are impressive, and readers will come away from reading In the Mercy of Snow changed by the experience. -Michael A. Griffith, author of New Paths to Eden (Kelsay Books) and Bloodline, Revised and Expanded Edition (Soma Publishers)

Whiter Than Snow written by Paul David Tripp and has been published by Crossway this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-06-26 with Religion categories.

What do you do when you've really blown it? Is sin really as dangerous and is grace really as powerful as the Bible says they are? Is there such a thing as a new beginning? Sin and grace-these are the two themes of our lives. We all blow it and we all need to start over again. In Psalm 51, David tells his story of moral failure, personal awareness, grief, confession, repentance, commitment, and hope. And because David's story is every believer's story, Psalm 51 is every believer's psalm. It tells how we, as broken sinners, can be brutally honest with God and yet stand before him without fear. Whiter Than Snow unpacks this powerful little psalm in fifty-two meditations, reminding readers that by God's grace there is mercy for every wrong and grace for every new beginning. Designed for busy believers, these brief and engaging meditations are made practical by the reflection questions that conclude each chapter.

Deerfield, Massachusetts is one of the most remote, and therefore dangerous, settlements in the English colonies. In 1704 an Indian tribe attacks the town, and Mercy Carter becomes separated from the rest of her family, some of whom do not survive. Mercy and hundreds of other settlers are herded together and ordered by the Indians to start walking. The grueling journey -- three hundred miles north to a Kahnawake Indian village in Canada -- takes more than 40 days. At first Mercy's only hope is that the English government in Boston will send ransom for her and the other white settlers. But days turn into months and Mercy, who has become a Kahnawake daughter, thinks less and less of ransom, of Deerfield, and even of her "English" family. She slowly discovers that the "savages" have traditions and family life that soon become her own, and Mercy begins to wonder: If ransom comes, will she take it?
