En novembre 2005, après la Suisse, la Tunisie a consacré la Société de l'information " en organisant la seconde phase du Sommet mondial sur la société de l'information. Cette société, encore embryonnaire, est fondée sur les réseaux, l'Internet, les moteurs de recherche, la numérisation des grands fonds de la connaissance, les sociétés de distribution d'images et les industries culturelles mondialisées. Ceci suppose que tous les citoyens soient usagers de ces techniques et les apprécient... La " révolution technologique " que certains croient ici percevoir engendre certes une nouvelle économie avec son cortège d'innovations, mais aussi de nombreuses inégalités sociales. Et elle en vient à constituer un rempart pour les responsables politiques, désemparés face à la complexité des enjeux mondiaux. Cette livraison d'Hermès portant sur la " Société de la connaissance " - autre terme mieux adapté pour désigner la Société de l'information - doit être conçue comme un outil au service de la réflexion critique. Nous espérons aussi attirer l'attention des " décideurs sur certaines dimensions : techniques (liées au libre accès) ; éducatives (promouvant la généralisation des cours numérisés libres de droit) ; sociales (privilégiant la préservation de l'indépendance de l'éducation et la diffusion des connaissances) ; économiques (montrant que l'avenir de l'éducation ne passe pas par sa brevetabilité et son inscription à l'Accord général sur le commerce des services). Ce numéro souhaite contribuer à fonder d'autres paradigmes pour penser la " Société de la connaissance ". Nous avons choisi à cet effet quatre problématiques.
