Attaining organizational commitment from employees plays a vital role in the success of a business. This is because commitment ensures loyalty and stability within an environment. Employee empowerment is also another critical element of business as it ensures motivation and engagement from the organization's workforce. By using Natalie Allen and John Meyer's three types of commitment as a major lens, this paper analyzes appropriate literature related to empowerment leadership. The correlation between organizational commitment and employee empowerment is discussed and it indicates that empowerment can positively impact an employee's commitment to their work organization. Employees can experience burnout if their jobs get too overwhelming. That is why it is crucial that appropriate applications of empowerment are applied to the organization's leadership through autonomy, resources, and overall job satisfaction. This paper also provides a brief guide that managers and organizations can use when re-evaluating their empowerment levels to increase organizational commitment.

Abstract: The relationship between Person-Organizational Fit (P-O Fit) and Organizational Commitment has been well established in the organizational literature. However, there is limited research on how to induce P-O Fit at job onset (i.e., during a new hire orientation) to achieve organizational commitment earlier in the employee life cycle. One possibility is to educate newly hired employees on organizational values and culture. Therefore, this study analyzed an organizational archival data set to test the hypothesis that organizations can increase new hires' perceptions of P-O Fit through heightening their awareness of organizational values, thereby increasing employees' perceptions of organizational commitment. The archival data were from a university-based retail organization with established organizational values; the organization typically conducts new employee orientation sessions that include a discussion of the organization's values. Participants (N = 147) were given a pre- and post-test surveys before and after attending the orientation (Time 1 and Time 2). It was hypothesized that there would be an increase in mean scores of the key variables of P-O Fit, Organizational Commitment from Time 1 to Time 2 by inducing new employees' Awareness of Organizational Values. The results showed that mean scores of all three variables significantly increased at Time 2 compared with Time 1, and a mediated regression test found that the relationship of Awareness of Organizational Values and Organizational Commitment was partially mediated by P-O Fit. The implications of these findings were discussed.

Members of the Millennial Generation have higher rates of turnover compared to other generations. This can represent significant costs to organizations, and therefore is important to minimize. Job satisfaction has been shown to increase motivation and productivity as well as decrease turnover, and can be maximized by adjusting economic factors, fostering interpersonal relationships, and adjusting activities, tasks, and work conditions to the personality of the worker. All three types of organizational commitment (affective, normative, and continuance) also decrease turnover rates. Both job satisfaction and organizational commitment depend on a worker’s personality, needs, and expectations, which are influenced by the generation they were born into. Implementing mentoring programs and making specific changes in job design and work environment according to Millennials’ needs and expectations could increase Millennial satisfaction and commitment.

Lack of effective leadership strategies contributes to a reduction in employee engagement and productivity. Managers are concerned about the lack of effective leadership strategies because it negatively affects employee engagement and productivity, reducing organizational growth. Grounded in Bass’s transformational leadership theory, the purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore effective leadership strategies used to enhance employee engagement and increase productivity. Five managers from an electric cooperative in Northwest Florida who implemented effective leadership strategies participated in the study. Data were collected using semistructured interviews and a review of organizational documents. Data were analyzed using Yin’s five-step approach. The four emergent themes were teamwork, encouragement, leading by example, and rewards. A key recommendation is for business leaders to provide frequent, honest feedback, coach when needed, and provide appropriate training, allowing to succeed in a conducive environment. By nurturing and seeking advice from subordinates, managers show employees they are valued and contribute to the organization. The implications for positive social change include the potential for managers to create a safe, comfortable environment that improves social conditions by promoting their subordinates' worth, dignity, and development.

Seeds Of Culture written by Dan Bredeson and has been published by Greenleaf Book Group this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-10 with Business & Economics categories.

Culture is grown, not built Why do so many organizations get culture so wrong? Because too many leaders think like a carpenter instead of a farmer. Culture is often referred to in construction terms, such as "Let's build our culture," or "We need to lay a solid foundation for culture." Culture doesn't work that way. It’s an organic process. Culture is grown, not built. In Seeds of Culture, author Dan Bredeson discusses •how an organization’s culture affects performance, •the six traits of successful “culture farmers” (i.e., leaders), •the seven “seeds” that will grow into a culture of commitment, •and how leaders should cultivate those seeds throughout their life cycle. Many organizations have a culture which seeks compliance instead of commitment. Performance improves when members of the organization go the extra mile because they want to, not because they have to. Seeds of Culture outlines how to improve performance by growing a culture of commitment. This leads to a sense of community and an environment in which team members show up, work hard, and care about each other and the organization.

Organizational Behavior written by Jason A. Colquitt and has been published by Irwin/McGraw-Hill this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-02-01 with Corporate culture categories.

Colquitt, LePine, and Wesson's Organizational Behavior: Essentials for Improving Performance and Commitment in the Workplace represents the most up-to-date perspective on Organizational Behavior (OB) on the market today. Many students leave their OB courses asking questions like: "Does any of this stuff really matter?", "How does all this stuff fit together?", "If that theory doesn't work, why is it in the book?", and "Does this stuff have to be so dry?" Those questions will never be asked if Colquitt Essentials is used. The author team has written a text that highlights the importance of course topics while organizing them around an integrative model of OB. The text is also contemporary, omitting outdated and disproven models that remain in other texts. Most important to students, the text is written in an approachable, conversational tone, with features that students actually want to read. Colquitt Essentials is the complete package in a condensed, unique, and visually stimulating format, all without losing the integrity and level of quality we've come to expect from this author team. This text stands out from the competition for four key reasons: A Focus on Performance and Commitment. Being a good performer and working for an employer that inspires commitment are critical concerns for employees and managers alike. Colquitt Essentials takes a unique approach by devoting Chapter 2 to job performance and organizational commitment. Once these two key outcomes have been spotlighted, all of the remaining chapters are linked back to them, illustrating the importance of the chapter topics to performance and commitment. An Integrative Model of OB. The table of contents is organized around an integrative model, described in Chapter 1, that provides a roadmap for the course, showing students how all of the chapters fit together. Unlike many OB texts with many editions behind them, Colquitt Essentials avoids being "grab-baggish" in nature with what seem to be randomly placed topics. The positioning of every topic makes sense, and it's easy for students to understand how the topics they are studying fit into the bigger picture. Contemporary Content. When creating the book, the author team asked themselves what OB texts would look like if all of them were first written in 2008. Many OB texts include outdated and disproven models, just to maintain continuity with earlier editions. Such content frustrates students, who don't understand why they should learn theories that are not valid. Colquitt Essentials omits such theories, devoting more space to contemporary topics that are useful for employees and managers. Features that Students Want to Read. Each chapter includes special insert box features like OB on Screen, OB in Sports, OB for Students, and OB Internationally that help "bring OB to life" for the reader. Many of these features have been praised by students for their ability to demonstrate OB content in a fun and appealing manner. Colquitt Essentials also uses an informal style that students enjoy reading, while focusing on company examples that students find interesting (Google, Netflix, Best Buy, Four Seasons, eBay, and others).
