Joachim Renns Analyse geht einen medientheoretischen Umweg: Sie konzentriert sich zunächst auf die Bedeutung verschiedener Kommunikationsmedien für die eigenlogische Formatierung möglicher Gegenstände der Bezugnahme und erst dann auf die Referenzansprüche der Soziologie selbst. Es zeigt sich: Diese pragmatistische Rekonstruktion einer medialen »Welt-Erschließung« wird - anders als der weit verbreitete Konstruktivismus - der realistischen Intuition einer Soziologie als empirischer Wissenschaft gerecht.
