Excerpt from Industrial Chemistry: For Engineering Students The purpose of this text is to describe from the standpoint of chemistry, the more common materials used in the various branches of engineering. Emphasis is accordingly laid upon the occurrence, the mode of manufacture, the properties, and, to a limited extent, the uses of the various materials. The text is an elaboration of the author's lecture notes used during the last eight years in the courses of industrial chemistry for second year engineering students. The compilations of data have been taken from various sources, many of which are indicated in the footnotes. The work presupposes a knowledge of elementary physics and general chemistry. By a selection of suitable subject matter, it is hoped to give the prospective engineer a working knowledge of the chemistry of the materials and processes with which he will deal and the ability necessary to interpret chemical analyses and apply them in the preparation of specifications and in the pursuit of experimental research which now so frequently accompanies the solution of engineering problems. The topics of greatest interest and importance to engineers, such as fuels and combustion, clay products and cement, are treated quite fully; other topics arc necessarily dealt with more briefly than in the larger text-books but in all cases the bibliographies at the ends of the chapters will guide the reader who desires to go farther. These bibliographies have been compiled with care and brought closely down to date; it is believed that they will be useful to practicing chemists and engineers as well as to students. The special world of industrial chemistry is illuminated in this text. Issues such as naming and classification of chemicals, safety, formulations and specifications, information and patents are treated. Process-related topics are discussed, such as scaling-up, equipment selection, construction materials, environmental impact and waste minimization. Aspects which fall in between the traditional disciplines of chemistry and chemical engineering are covered, which are so critical for the development of a successful industrial process, and the awareness of which avoids pitfalls in industrial research and development. Case studies are given, and special appendices provide useful information for the industrial chemist or student. The book is aimed at industrial chemists and engineers, and at students in those faculties, intending to pursue this field in industry. Marketing and purchasing staff will also find this text valuable.

Industrial Chemistry is a branch of chemistry in modern science. In industrial chemistry in modern science, we study about compounds or elements, their properties, and applications; which are used in industries. Since the time of Industrial Revolution, human intellect throughout the civilized world has been driving this Chemical Revolution. The book Industrial Chemistry is an excellent source of technological and economic information on the most important precursors and intermediates used in the chemical industry. It should be in the hand of every higher-graduate student, especially if chemical technology is not part of the study, like in many college universities. This book on industrial chemistry provides an overview of the new trends and hot topics by describing the challenge of designing industrial chemical processes that are up-to-date, sustainable, and economically feasible. The text in this book is throughout supplemented with diagrams and tables. The treatment of all topics is in a cogent, lucid style aimed at enabling the reader to grasp the information quickly and easily. This useful book is specifically intended for practicing chemical engineers, industrial chemists and research students.
