Industrial-style furniture is in fashion--bistro tables and chairs, lockers, mail sorting racks, and jointed lamps are all common elements in today's interior design. In the book Industrial Chic, Brigitte Durieux, one of the most well-known experts on the style, tells us the story behind 50 European and American objects that have made the surprising transition from factories to our living rooms and become cult furniture. The remarkable histories of these 50 significant objects--including the Gras lamp, the Singer stool, the Holophane reflector, the Brilli clock, and more--accompany brilliant photographs by Laziz Hamani. Featuring more than 250 images, Industrial Chic is a beautifully illustrated showcase that reveals the incredible reach, versatility, and long-lasting appeal of industrial design. Praise for Industrial Chic: "Large, lush photographs.... [A] luxe treasury for design and furniture lovers alike." --American Craft magazine

"Industrial style or "industrial chic" refers to an aesthetic trend in interior design that has been popular since the start of the 21st century and which takes inspiration from old factories and industrial spaces that in recent years have been converted into lofts and other living spaces. Components of industrial style include weathered wood, exposed brick, industrial lighting, fixtures and concrete. Old factory spaces are often characteriSed by their spaciousness, high ceilings, large windows and special finishes. This guide to interior design sets out to convey the atmosphere of the industrial style and how it influences contemporary interior design in domestic and hospitality settings"--Publisher's description.

Post Industrial Urban Greenspace written by Jennifer Foster and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-02 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Post-industrial urban spaces typically include abandoned factories, disused rail lines, old pits and quarries, and de-commissioned landfills. In these places, different visions compete for dominance with respect to current and future land uses. Neighbours often view such urban greenspace as polluted, unkempt and weedy, harbouring undesirable biophysical features and people. These are spaces that often become the focus of some form of revitalization, reinvestment and restoration. From the perspective of civic authorities and urban planners, transforming post-industrial landscapes into disciplined and tended greenspace creates the urban conditions and signals of popular contemporary taste that attract investors, gentrifiers, and tourists. But post-industrial spaces are also places where unique and unpredictable human and ecological associations can emerge spontaneously. Such places may contain considerable ecological integrity and biodiversity and host human populations who find a home and respite in such ecologies. They also tell stories of an industrial and urban past that should be acknowledged, understood and (if suitable) celebrated. This volume explores the environmental justice and injustice dimensions of emerging urban post-industrial landscapes, including the ecological politics, cultural representations and aesthetics of these spaces. This bookw as published as a special issue of Local Environment.
