Infância, educação e trabalho trata do trabalho infantil e das políticas públicas para sua erradicação no Brasil. Consiste em um dos temas de maior relevância para o campo educacional e áreas afins. Qualquer atividade exploradora da energia infantil é um fenômeno nocivo à infância e à adolescência, fases da vida prioritárias à formação da constituição humana, da personalidade, da cidadania e da vida enquanto produção da existência. A realidade brasileira atual aponta, aproximadamente, 3.2 milhoões de crianças trabalhando no Brasil. Em termos da formação humana, essa realidade é complexa, cruel e excludente, visto que, além de perigoso, o trabalho infantil em ambientes insalubres expõe a criança a situações de risc o constante. Por se tratar de uma questão social e de responsabilidade de todos os cidadãos, necessita ser discutida, pensada e erradicada na sociedade brasileira e mundial o quanto antes, caso contrário os direitos da infância continuarão sendo violados. Considera-se, nesse contexto, a fundamental função social da escola pública, assim como as ações efetivas das Comissões do Programa de Erradicação do Trabalho Infantil – Peti – e dos Conselhos Tutelares, que possuem, frente a essa temática, determinações importantíssimas para podermos refletir e analisar tal situação social. Parte-se do pressuposto de que a perspectiva da educação é elemento sine qua non para se chegar à superação do fenômeno trabalho infantil, quando discute, entre outras questões, os elementos metodológ icos para uma teoria crítica do fenômeno educativo sob o ponto de vista do capitalismo. Salienta-se o conteúdo do livro sob cinco categorias de análise: Infância; Trabalho Infantil (TI); Políticas para Erradicação do TI; Direitos para a Infância; e Função Social da Escola Pública. Entende-se que a perspectiva histórica aqui absorvida nas categorias se fundamenta na visão crítica da sociedade capitalista para além do reformismo nos âmbitos político, pedagógico, econômico, cultural e social.
