Deleuze And Ancient Greek Physics

Deleuze And Ancient Greek Physics written by Michael James Bennett and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-27 with Philosophy categories.
In 1988 the philosopher Gilles Deleuze remarked that, throughout his career, he had always been 'circling around' a concept of nature. Providing critical analysis of his highly original readings of Stoicism, Aristotle, and Epicurus, this book shows that it is Deleuze's interpretations of ancient Greek physics that provide the key to understanding his conception of nature. Using the works of Aristotle, Plato, Chrysippus, and Epicurus, Michael Bennett traces the development of Deleuze's key concepts of event, difference, and problem. Arguing that it is difficult, if not impossible, to fully understand these ideas without an appreciation of Deleuze's Hellenistic influences, Deleuze and Ancient Greek Physics situates his commentaries in the context of contemporary scholarship on ancient Greek philosophy. Delving into the original Greek and Latin texts, this book shows that Deleuze's readings are more complex and controversial than they first appear, simultaneously advancing Deleuze as a new voice in interpretations of ancient Greek philosophy. Generating both new critical analyses of Deleuze and a new appreciation for his classical erudition, Deleuze and Ancient Greek Physics will be a valuable resource for anyone interested in ancient Greek philosophy, Deleuze's philosophical project or his unique methodology in the history of philosophy.

The Infinite written by A.W. Moore and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-09 with Philosophy categories.
We are all captivated and puzzled by the infinite, in its many varied guises; by the endlessness of space and time; by the thought that between any two points in space, however close, there is always another; by the fact that numbers go on forever; and by the idea of an all-knowing, all-powerful God. In this acclaimed introduction to the infinite, A. W. Moore takes us on a journey back to early Greek thought about the infinite, from its inception to Aristotle. He then examines medieval and early modern conceptions of the infinite, including a brief history of the calculus, before turning to Kant and post-Kantian ideas. He also gives an account of Cantor’s remarkable discovery that some infinities are bigger than others. In the second part of the book, Moore develops his own views, drawing on technical advances in the mathematics of the infinite, including the celebrated theorems of Skolem and Gödel, and deriving inspiration from Wittgenstein. He concludes this part with a discussion of death and human finitude. For this third edition Moore has added a new part, ‘Infinity superseded’, which contains two new chapters refining his own ideas through a re-examination of the ideas of Spinoza, Hegel, and Nietzsche. This new part is heavily influenced by the work of Deleuze. Also new for the third edition are: a technical appendix on still unresolved questions about different infinite sizes; an expanded glossary; and updated references and further reading. The Infinite, Third Edition is ideal reading for anyone interested in an engaging and historically informed account of this fascinating topic, whether from a philosophical point of view, a mathematical point of view, or a religious point of view.

Introduction To Finite And Infinite Series And Related Topics written by J. H. Heinbockel and has been published by Trafford Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-12 with Mathematics categories.
An introduction to the analysis of finite series, infinite series, finite products and infinite products and continued fractions with applications to selected subject areas. Infinite series, infinite products and continued fractions occur in many different subject areas of pure and applied mathematics and have a long history associated with their development. The mathematics contained within these pages can be used as a reference book on series and related topics. The material can be used to augment the mathematices found in traditional college level mathematics course and by itself is suitable for a one semester special course for presentation to either upper level undergraduates or beginning level graduate students majoring in science, engineering, chemistry, physics, or mathematics. Archimedes used infinite series to find the area under a parabolic curve. The method of exhaustion is where one constructs a series of triangles between the arc of a parabola and a straight line. A summation of the areas of the triangles produces an infinite series representing the total area between the parabolic curve and the x-axis.
