The book assists in bringing together the three stakeholders of an innovation – inventor, decision maker and organization. These stakeholders have conflicting requirements and the book offers advice on how and by what methods they can communicate and the information that is expected and required in different phases of innovation. The perspectives of inventor, decision maker and organization are integrated in a business model that enables a common “language” and communication platform for the inevitably emerging tension field and that allows for asking and answering the right questions.

The concept of digitalization captures the widespread adoption of digital technologies in our lives, in the structure and functioning of organizations and in the transformation of our economy and society. Digital technologies for data processing and communication underly high-impact innovations including the Internet of Things, wireless multimedia, artificial intelligence, big data, enterprise platforms, social networks and blockchain. These digital innovations not only bring new opportunities for prosperity and wellbeing but also affect our behaviors, activities, and daily lives. They enable and shape new forms of production and new working practices in sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, logistics and supply chains, energy, and public and business services. Digital innovations are not purely technological but form part of comprehensive systemic innovations of a sociotechnical and networked nature, requiring the alignment of technology, processes, organizations, and humans. Examples are platform-based work, customer driven value creating networks, and urban public service systems. Building on widespread networking, algorithmic decisions and sharing of personal data, these innovations raise intensive societal and ethical debates regarding key issues such as data sovereignty and privacy intrusion, business models based on data surveillance and negative externalization, quality of work and jobs, and market dominance versus regulation. In this context, this book focuses on the implications of digitalization for the domain of work. The book studies the changing nature of work as well as new forms of digitally enabled organizations, work practices and cooperation. The book sheds light on the technological, economic, and political forces shaping the new world of work and on the prospects for human-centric and responsible innovations.

Information is not taken seriously. Much is said about the information age, the information economy, the information society, and particularly about information technology, but little about information itself. If these are important, then so is information. But information is not as other goods: it has some peculiar characteristics. It cannot be displayed for sale without giving it away in the process. Sold, it goes to the buyer but still remains with the seller. Buying entails expressing demand in ignorance for buyers who do not know just what it is that they do not know. Such characteristics have long been recognised by economists, but it is not generally economists who have most to say about the importance of information. This privilege is exercised by senior managers, who speak passionately about knowledge-based, learning organizations; by politicians and public servants, anxious to compensate with policy and programme for the information failure of organization and market; and by specialists in telecommunications and information technology, bent on adding value to what they treat as just a commodity. All are particularly enthusiastic about the innovation which springs from information. Information usually requires new information. Finding, acquiring, and mixing this new information with that already in use presents problems, not least because complex information transactions are required rather than simple information transfer. Solutions can be devised, but only by accommodating the characteristics of information. This book contrasts the way innovation is normally regarded in a variety of areas from eighteenth-century agriculture to high technology, from technology transfer to industrial espionage, from corporate strategy to patents and independent inventors with how it appears from what is termed an 'information perspective', that is one that puts information first. The results are intriguing, suggesting that radically different approaches to innovation (and organization) should be considered.

Informational Society written by Alfred L. Norman and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-06-17 with Business & Economics categories.

This book explores the transition into a future economy where human work is largely replaced by automation. As this transition takes place job destruction will outpace job creation resulting in increasing unemployment. The author theorizes that the key challenges in managing this transition will be providing income for the unemployed, reforming a government dominated by the wealthy and corporate interests, and creating new social structures to replace work as a central focus of life. The book begins with a discussion of the concept of bounded rationality and how it influences the pace of technological adoption. The author also discusses how advances in technology—particularly in automation—affect both physical and informational tasks, transforming industries and reducing employment across sectors. Next, the author turns to government, addressing successes and failures in addressing current issues like climate change, immigration, economic inequality, and government capture by the wealthy and corporations. Government reform is essential for managing the social and economic impacts of automation. Positing that the transition period will begin between 2030 and 2050, the author recommends that planning should begin now to implement solutions, including a negative income tax, affordable housing, and a shift towards leisure-based social organization.
