Reengineering, in the context of this book, involves the redesign or transformation of existing Information Systems, while at the same time retaining as much of the original existing system as possible. This approach has obvious benefits when it involves systems that can be automated and/or supported by methods and tools. This book focuses on the practical approaches to Information Systems Reengineering. The two crucial technological areas covered include (1) the conversion of hierarchical or network database systems into relational database technology, or from relational to object-oriented databases, and (2) the integration of database systems and expert systems to produce management information systems (MIS) and executive information systems (EIS), where the concepts, the approach to be taken, and the benefits gained are summarized. The authors describe in detail database conversion techniques, reverse and forward engineering, and a reengineering methodology for information systems.

Information Systems Reengineering Integration And Normalization written by Joseph Shi Piu Fong and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-02-09 with Computers categories.

Taking a very practical approach, the author describes in detail database conversion techniques, reverse engineering, forward engineering and re-engineering methodologies for information systems, offering a systematic software engineering approach for reusing existing database systems built with “old” technology. He demonstrates how the existing systems can be transformed into the new technologies with the preservation of semantic constraints and without loss of information. In this third edition, with a new chapter on Data Normalization the author shows once the databases have been converted, how to integrate them for consolidating information, and how to normalize them so that they are efficient and user friendly. Many examples, illustrations and case studies together with questions and answers ensure that the methodology is easy to follow. Ideal as a textbook for students studying information systems theories, Information Systems Reengineering Integration and Normalization will also be a valuable management reference book for Information Technology Practitioners. Database technology is an important subject in Computer Science. Every large company and nation needs a database to store information. The technology has evolved from file systems in the 60’s, to Hierarchical and Network databases in the 70’s, to relational databases in the 80’s, object-oriented databases in the 90’s, and to XML documents and NoSQL today. As a result, there is a need to reengineer and update old databases into new databases. This book presents solutions for this task. In this fourth edition, Chapter 9 - Heterogeneous Database Connectivity (HDBC) offers a database gateway platform for companies to communicate with each other not only with their data, but also via their database. The ability of sharing a database can contribute to the applications of Big Data and surveys for decision support systems. The HDBC gateway solution collects input from the database, transfers the data into its middleware storage, converts it into a common data format such as XML documents, and then distributes them to the users. HDBC transforms the common data into the target database to meet the user’s requirements, acting like a voltage transformer hub. The voltage transformer converts the voltage to a voltage required by the users. Similarly, HDBC transforms the database to the target database required by the users. This book covers reengineering for data conversion, integration for combining databases and merging databases and expert system rules, normalization for eliminating duplicate data from the database, and above all, HDBC connects all legacy databases to one target database for the users. The authors provide a forum for readers to ask questions and the answers are given by the authors and the other readers on the Internet.

Businesses must constantly adapt to a dynamically changing environment that requires choosing an adaptive and dynamic information architecture that has the flexibility to support both changes in the business environment and changes in technology. In general, information systems reengineering has the objective of extracting the contents, data structures, and flow of data and process contained within existing legacy systems in order to reconstitute them into a new form for subsequent implementation. Information Systems Reengineering for Modern Business Systems: ERP, Supply Chain and E-Commerce Management Solutions covers different techniques that could be used in industry in order to reengineer business processes and legacy systems into more flexible systems capable of supporting modern trends such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), supply chain management systems and e-commerce. This reference book also covers other issues related to the reengineering of legacy systems, which include risk management and obsolescence management of requirements.

Reengineering is using information technology to improved performance and cut costs. Its main premise is to examine the goals of an organization and redesign work and business processes from the ground up rather than to simply automate existing tasks and functions. Reengineering is driven by open markets and competition. It is part of responding to a global economy where worldwide customers are more sophisticated and demanding. Defining and executing a systems integration process is a challenging project for a CIO or IS director. Let Reengineering: Systems Integration Success show you how. This multiauthored book covers all aspects of the systems integration process. It addresses critical success factors and underlying pitfalls of systems integration. Packed with features and benefits, Reengineering: Systems Integration Success is the key to success in your organization.

UNISCON 2009 (United Information Systems Conference) was the third conf- ence in the series that is based on the idea to pool smaller but highly interesting scienti?c events on information systems into one large conference. Here, people from di?erent scienti?c backgrounds can present their research results, share their ideas and discuss future trends in these various areas. UNISCON 2009 was held in Sydney, Australia in the University of Western Sydney, Campbelltown Campus. In 2009 the following scienti?c events were held under the umbrella of UNISCON 2009: th – 8 International Conference on Information Systems Technology and Its Applications (ISTA 2009) th – 8 International Workshop on Conceptual Modelling Approaches for e- Business (eCOMO 2009) – Second Workshop on Model-Based Software and Data Integration (MBSDI 2009) We received 115 papers for the three events. Papers were submitted from over 25 countries. After a rigorous review process, 39 papers were accepted as full papers and 14 papers as short papers for presentation at the conference and published in these proceedings. In addition to the above three events, we also organized a Doctoral Cons- tium to provide a forum for doctoral students to get feedback from experts in the area about their research projects.

Information Technology And Business Process Reengineering written by Hui Liang Tsai and has been published by Praeger this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-03-30 with Business & Economics categories.

Information technology matters. The formulation of business models and strategies is likely to be seriously flawed if it neglects new technological changes and repercussions. Information technology and organizational learning are both critical to attaining and sustaining competitive advantage. Based on these premises, and on the increasingly evident obsolescence of the traditional, hierarchical business model, the author takes an integrated approach to the discussion of organizational learning, new value propositions, supply-chain optimization, e-commerce, new perspectives on business process reengineering, collaborative business models, globalization of business, and the continuing trend toward virtual integration. This book is not another tired exhortation to take advantage of technology to improve corporate performance. One cannot utilize technology to its full potential without also overhauling the rigid, hierarchical business model that was designed for the command-and-control corporate environment of the industrial era. Tsai takes a comprehensive view of everything that needs to be done in order to make the most of emerging technologies. The new information economy calls for companies that foster strategic collaboration through a more horizontal organizational structure. A more synchronized supply chain yields better customer service, higher quality, faster delivery, and lower inventory. In the customer-centric environment, a new value proposition is essential. Business processes must be fast, focused, flexible, responsive, and nimble. With the knowledge gained from this book, one should be able to face the future with an ability and capacity to discern technology policies and make decisions concerning strategic positioning and competitive business strategy.
