Este documento presenta el informe de la Reunión Internacional para la Cooperación Sur-Sur y Triangular en el marco de la Iniciativa Crecimiento Azul en América Latina, celebrada en Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, del 26 al 27 de noviembre de 2019. Participaron 31 delegados de 15 países. Esta reunión permitió identificar brechas en el desarrollo relativo sectorial de la pesca y la acuicultura entre los países de la región y establecer líneas de Cooperación Sur-Sur entre países oferentes de capacidades y países demandantes de asistencia. Se dispuso de una jornada para presentar las principales fortalezas de los países oferentes (Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, México y Perú), seguida de una jornada de reuniones bilaterales entre países demandantes (Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panamá, Paraguay y República Dominicana) y oferentes, a través de las cuales se establecieron compromisos de cooperación y posibles mecanismos para facilitar las acciones identificadas.

In the last ten to fifteen years, profound structural reforms have moved Latin America and the Caribbean from closed, state-dominated economies to ones that are more market-oriented and open. Policymakers expected that these changes would speed up growth. This book is part of a multi-year project to determine whether these expectation have been fulfilled. Analysing the impact of the reforms on employment it is argued that expectations were not fulfilled with respect to the operation of the labour markets. The reforms limited the expansion of employment in some sectors, particularly in tradeable goods. They also created a bias in labour demad for better educated workers which exacerbates inequality. It is thus made clear that the region faces major challenges both in increasing the number of jobs and improving job equality.

This book will suggest new agendas for identity and heritage studies by means of presenting contentious issues facing archaeology and heritage management in a globalized world. The book is not only present the variability of heritage objectives and experiences in the New and Old World, and opens a discussion, in a shrinking world, to look beyond national and regional contexts. If the heritage sector and archaeology are to remain relevant in our contemporary world and the near future, there are a number of questions concerning the politics, practices and narratives related to heritage and identity that must be addressed. Questions of relevance in an affluent, cosmopolitan setting are at odds with those relevant for a region emerging from civil war or ethnic strife, or a national minority battling oppression or ethnic cleansing. A premise is that heritage represents a broad scope of empirically and theoretically sound interpretations – that heritage is a response to contemporary forces, as much as data. It is therefore necessary constantly to evaluate what is scientifically accurate as well as what is valid and relevant and what can have a contemporary impact.

In an increasingly globalised world, economic and cultural imperatives can be seen as two of the most powerful forces shaping human behaviour. This book considers the relationship between economics and culture both as areas of intellectual discourse, and as systems of societal organisation. Adopting a broad definition of culture, it explores the economic dimensions of culture, and the cultural context of economics. The book is built on a foundation of value theory, developing the twin notions of economic and cultural value as underlying principles for integrating the two fields. Ideas of cultural capital and sustainability are discussed, especially as means of analysing the particular problems of cultural heritage, drawing parallels with the treatment of natural capital in ecological economics.
