Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2001 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: --, Universität Potsdam (Institut für Germanistik), Veranstaltung: Ingeborg Bachmann Todesarten-Projekt, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Schon die ersten beiden Seiten der „Ägyptischen Finsternis“ im „Buch Franza“ erregen Aufmerksamkeit und Staunen. Zwei Geschwister treffen in der Wüste ein und eine metaphorische Dichte erschlägt den Leser fast. Wir bemerken nicht gleich, was uns fast atemlos macht. Aber der zweite und dritte Blick offenbaren immer neue Schichten des Textes und werfen Fragen auf: Was passiert, worum geht es? Und dieses Staunen und Sich-Fragen bleibt nicht nur auf den Anfang beschränkt. Wir haben mit den ersten beiden Kapiteln („Heimkehr nach Galicien“ und „Jordanische Zeit“) das Geschwisterpaar Martin und Franza kennengelernt und durften die Ursachen für die Krankheit und das Leiden Franzas erfahren. Wir reisen mit ihnen – den durch Blut Verbündeten – durch diese Krankheit und tauchen mit der Ankunft in Ägypten noch tiefer in die Geschichte ein. Daß so viele fesselnde Fragen auftraten, ließ mich neugierig werden und eingehender mit dem Text beschäftigen. Eine übergeordnete Rolle spielte dabei das Motiv der Wüste, mit dem ich mich auch in dieser Arbeit auseinandersetzen möchte. Sie ist quasi der Handlungsort der Kapitel „Ägyptische Finsternis (Teil I, Hauptfassung)“ und „Ägyptische Finsternis (Teil III, Hauptfassung)“ im „Buch Franza“ und scheint Auslöser bestimmter geistiger Prozesse bei Franza zu sein und die Entwicklung ihres Leidens zu beeinflussen. Auf welche Art und Weise und aus welchen Gründen will ich untersuchen. Zuvor aber ist ein kurzer Blick auf Ingeborg Bachmanns „Todesarten“-Projekt und den Begriff „Wüste“ unumgänglich. Es steht anstatt eines Überblicks über die Biographie. Genauso sind die „Vorabbetrachtungen zur ‚Wüste‘“ keine vollständige Auseinandersetzung mit dem Begriff, sondern es ist ein „Andenken“, ein Zusammentragen von Assoziationen. Danach möchte ich Schritt für Schritt einige „Teile“ des Motivs untersuchen, die mir als die Wichtigsten erschienen und Verständnismöglichkeiten für den Text liefern. Das Kapitel 5 ordnet dann die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse in den Kontext des „Buchs Franza“ ein, um die Bedeutung Wüste noch einmal zu verdeutlichen und das Gesagte zu vertiefen. Methodisch werde ich mich dem Text größtenteils durch semantische Wortfeldanalyse nähern, da sie mir zu Beantwortung meiner Fragen geeigneter scheint als etwa eine psychoanalytische oder hermeneutische Analyse. Ausgangspunkt meiner Fragen waren eben Wörter oder Wortgruppen und hier spielen besonders Assoziationen und biblische oder mythische Hintergründe eine Rolle.

Ingeborg Bachmann (1927-73), one of the most acclaimed German-language poets of the post-war period, famously turned away from the lyric during the 1960s. Publicly declaring that she had stopped writing poetry, Bachmann began work on the prose Todesarten cycle that would dominate the last decade of her life. During a period of personal breakdown in the 1960s, however, she privately continued to write in verse, and the publication of selected drafts in 2000 threw new light on her compositional methods in this period. As the most extensive study to date of the poetic drafts, this monograph leads away from the polemic that surrounded their publication to establish the fragmentary texts as an experimental stage of writing that proved formally and thematically significant for later published prose works. Bridging the genre gap of much Bachmann scholarship, McMurtry illuminates the development of a reflexive mode where sophisticated aesthetic strategies enable the oblique expression of cultural critique. ine McMurtry is Lecturer in German at Durham University.

Intertextual Weaving in the Work of Linda Lê: Imagining the Ideal Reader uncovers the primary textual relationship that Linda Lê (1963– ), the most prolific Francophone author of the Vietnamese diaspora, fosters with a literary precursor of Austrian descent: the feminist writer-in-exile, Ingeborg Bachmann (1926–1973). This study offers an overdue exploration of the notably European roots of Lê’s writerly formation. It traces an unexamined feminist import in her work to a sixteen-year inter- and intra-textual engagement with Bachmann and positions the latter as an imagined ideal reader of Lê’s oeuvre. Intertextual analyses of Bachmann’s post-war novel, Malina, with Lê’s literary essays, early fiction, and trilogy, reveal that to overcome the challenges of writing in exile Lê adopts an alternative literary fore-bear of the European tradition.
