Este libro reúne una serie de artículos procedentes de una tarea grupal de investigación y reflexión en torno al concepto de “interculturalidad”, a partir de la vinculación entre colectivos conformados principalmente por migraciones y movilidades acaecidas en distintos momentos históricos en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Nietos de inmigrantes judíos, migrantes coreanos y sus hijos, afrodescendientes argentinos y latinoamericanos de diferentes períodos, senegaleses arribados recientemente y estudiantes residentes por tiempo limitado en programas de intercambio son algunos de los grupos cuyas interacciones analizamos. Sus encuentros y desencuentros abarcan desde espacios en los que la idea de “cultura” no se explicita (o se explicita en parte) hasta escenarios donde se erige como emblema. El estudio de estos espacios, de las relaciones con el Estado y las políticas públicas, de la(s) lucha(s) por el acceso a derechos, así como de las nociones que subyacen a la internacionalización de la educación superior constituyen un punto ventajoso para la formulación de propuestas superadoras de las desigualdades que las relaciones interculturales entrañan. Migration movements have been a constant in the societies of the past, as well as in postmodern society. However, in the past ten years, the increase in political, economic, and religious conflict amongst nations; the increase of the poverty index; and many and various natural disasters have duplicated the forced displacement of millions of people across the seven continents of the planet. This situation brings important challenges in terms of the vulnerability, inequity, and discrimination that certain peoples suffer. Professionals from the fields of the social sciences, education, psychology, and international law share the fact that education represents an opportunity for children and young migrants to become members with full rights in the societies they arrive in. Empirical studies show that that the implementation of the right to education for migrants presents some challenges and dilemmas to the governments of host countries and more specifically to the education centers, NGOs, universities, and the professionals working in them, hence the need for more research on these issues of immigration, refugees, social justice, and intercultural education. The rights of children are outlined in article 24 of the Charter of fundamental rights of the European Union; the binding catalogue of rights which institutions and member states are bound to respect when applying EU law. Although this article has undoubtedly been taken very seriously since the Charter was adopted in 2000, there are indications that in a number of cases it has not been possible for children in the EU to exercise fully the rights it envisaged. One such case involves migrating Romanian children, and concerns have been expressed that the rights of this group of migrant children have not always been fully taken into account. This book is the result of the two-year project "Children’s rights in Action", funded by the European Union, which focuses on the needs of children migrating from Romania to Italy and Spain in order to identify good practices, reduce their vulnerability and protect their rights. The book presents the impact that limited access to the rights guaranteed by EU law have had on the actual conditions of life for Romanian children in migration across Europe. Although the book shows that the rights enshrined in article 24 of the EU Charter are not yet fully and equally ensured in some EU countries, it also describes the ways in which local communities and civil society actors have often operated to fill the gap and enabled such children to exercise their rights despite legislative and political shortcomings.

La presente tesis pretende indagar en las condiciones, pedagógicas, sociales y familiares en las que los chicos y las chicas inmigrantes, y en particular, aquellos y aquellas que, en contra de las expectativas hegemónicas, hacen que continúen estudios y, en su caso, alcancen el "éxito escolar", como elementos esenciales para la mejora de la educación. La tesis está configurada en tres partes: la delimitación del objeto de estudio; la metodología y desarrollo de la investigación y los resultados y conclusiones de la investigación, terminando con un anexo con unas breves semblanzas de los sujetos del estudio, los chicos y chicas inmigrantes. En la primera parte, la delimitación del objeto de estudio, se describe el contexto social, político y educativo de la investigación y se expone el estado de la cuestión y el marco teórico. Para ello, realiza, en primer lugar, una descripción de la población inmigrante en nuestro país, en Andalucía y en Almería; así como de la presencia del alumnado inmigrante en esos mismos ámbitos geográficos. A continuación, entendiendo la importancia del marco político y normativo, se hace un análisis de la legislación educativa que enmarca el trabajo realizado en las escuelas en las dos últimas décadas. Una vez descrito el contexto se realiza una aproximación al tema de investigación: inmigración, educación e igualdad; con la aclaración de algunos conceptos muy utilizados en la práctica y política educativa (diversidad, diferencia, desigualdad, exclusión educativa, atención a la diversidad, diversidad cultural, igualdad de oportunidades, justicia social). Posteriormente se revisan las investigaciones sobre el alumnado inmigrante, de las que emergen algunos elementos para la reflexión en torno a su éxito educativo; e investigaciones sobre las trayectorias educativas de este alumnado, haciendo especial hincapié en los trabajos realizados desde las voces del alumnado. La segunda parte, recoge la metodología y desarrollo de la investigación, que se inicia con su justificación, las preguntas, hipótesis y objetivos que han conducido este trabajo, planteando un estudio cualitativo interpretativo con un diseño abierto, flexible y emergente. Para seguir con una descripción detallada de los participantes en el estudio, tanto de los sujetos de la muestra como participantes para la triangulación -docentes y otros profesionales-; una descripción también del proceso de obtención de datos con la entrevista como técnica principal, ya que era objeto de este trabajo dar voz a los principales protagonistas del proceso educativo. Terminando con un relato del proceso de análisis de los datos, la negociación y elaboración del informe final, recogiendo las categorías y las dimensiones establecidas que conforma posteriormente la presentación de los resultados. La tercera parte, la dedica al informe empírico propiamente dicho, en la que se exponen los principales hallazgos de la investigación. En las conclusiones se exponen las principales ideas fuerza de los resultados obtenidos, señalando los aspectos más importantes de manera que puedan dar una visión clara y rigurosa de los factores de éxito educativo del alumnado inmigrante, objeto de esta investigación; así como algunas reflexiones sobre la metodología utilizada y sus limitaciones, las líneas que quedan abiertas para futuras investigaciones, y algunas reflexiones y sugerencias e implicaciones educativas.
