Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Vor dem Hintergrund einer zunehmenden Technologiedynamik in der Form sich verkürzender Produkt- und Technologielebenszyklen, Sättigungstendenzen auf den traditionellen Märkten und einer Dynamisierung der Entwicklungen im Bereich der Verfahrenstechnik, hat sich der globale Wettbewerb in den letzten Jahren gewaltig verschärft. Wettbewerbsfähigkeit und Wachstum werden mehr denn je davon bestimmt, die Fähigkeit zu besitzen, neue Produkte und neue Verfahren hervorzubringen und sie auch weltweit zu vermarkten, um dadurch auch neue Märkte zu erschließen und den künftigen Innovations- und Investitionsanforderungen gerecht zu werden. Innovation ist somit eine zentrale Determinante für die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit und zukünftigen Erfolge und zwar nicht nur für die Großunternehmen, sondern gerade auch für kleine und mittlere Unternehmen (KMU), da sie bei Marktumbrüchen einem existentielleren Anpassungsdruck als Großunternehmen unterliegen. In bezug auf das Innovationsmanagement postuliert die wissenschaftliche Forschung den kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen sowohl Vor- wie auch Nachteile. Der größte und wohl bedeutendste Nachteil liegt in ihrer knappen Ressourcenausstattung (Personal und Kapital), welcher sie auch über den gesamten Innovationsprozeß begleitet. Dagegen wird dem Mittelstand seitens der Praxis eine enorme Kreativität zugesprochen. Ideen sind ausreichend vorhanden. Die Unternehmen sind jedoch nicht in der Lage, diese marktfähig umzusetzen. Dabei scheitert das Vorhaben, die Idee zum marktreifen Produkt oder Prozeß generieren zu lassen an der unsystematischen Entwicklung des Innovationsprozesses und somit auch an einem fehlenden Innovationsmanagement. Zweck der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, Faktoren zu identifizieren, die eine hemmende Wirkung auf den Innovationsprozeß haben und somit vorhandene Ideen in ihrer marktfähigen Realisierung behindern. Gang der Untersuchung: Die vorliegende Arbeit gliedert sich in einen theoretischen und einen empirischen Teil. Im theoretischen Teil der Arbeit wird, nach einer kurzen Abgrenzung begrifflicher Grundlagen, der Innovationsprozeß dargestellt. Nach einer Veranschaulichung des Innovationsmanagements werden die einzelnen Phasen und Charakteristika des Innovationsprozesses aufgeführt. In Kapitel 3.3 werden innovationsförderliche Faktoren zu Unterstützung des Neuerungsprozesses gezeigt und parallel dazu wird die Relevanz dieser Faktoren für KMUs herausgearbeitet.
