Soziale Netzwerk Analyse Im Bereich Innovationsmanagement written by Sigrid Schauer and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with categories.

The aim of this paper is to explore if and how the intraorganizational ties of employees, who are relevant or involved in innovation, differ from other employees, by using social network analysis. The research questions investigate > if employees have ties across departments and how these ties are characterized, > how employees, who are relevant or involved in innovation, are connected and > if and how the connections of these employees differ from others. This paper brings together several topics of investigation: social network analysis, innovation and information flow including e-mail communication. Therefore each of those parts is reviewed in a comprehensive literature research and considered in the empirical study and results. The empirical study was conducted in the Mondi Business Paper GmbH, an international company in the paper industry. The observation object is the holding division of the company, which is responsible for R&D of the whole company and located in Lower Austria. The social network of the holding division was analyzed based on the intrafirm e-mail exchange, where the ties of the network correspond to the sent and received e-mails. The analysis is done for a previous year and conducted with the social network analysis software Pajek. Organizational units of a company perform better and have more innovations if they occupy a central position in the network, which provides access to new knowledge that was developed by other units. Though this effect is limited the absorptive capacity of a unit, or the ability to replicate new knowledge successfully. Also the social capital of a person, which is a result of the network position of a person, has a significant positive effect on product innovation. The conducted social network analyses clearly indicate that the innovation department is more central than other departments and information spreads more easily within the innovation department, which enhance innovation. The analysis shows further that there are strong and weak ties within and between the departments and that actors and departments differ from each other. Summarizing this social network case study gives a good overview of social networks and the differences between the ties and actors concerning the field of innovation.

Innovations are adopted when users integrate them in meaningful ways into existing social practices. Histories of major technological innovations show that often the creative initiative of users and user communities becomes the determining factor in the evolution of particular innovations. The evolutionary routes of the telephone, the Internet, the World Wide Web, email, and the Linux operating system all took their developers by surprise. Articulation of these technologies as meaningful products and systems was made possible by innovative users and unintended resources. Iterative and interactive models have replaced the traditional linear model of innovation during the last decade. Yet, heroic innovators and entrepreneurs, unambiguous functionality of products, and a focus on the up-stream aspects of innovation still underlie much discussion on innovation, intellectual property rights, technology policy, and product development. Coherent conceptual, theoretical and practical conclusions from research on knowledge creation, theory of learning, history of technology, and the social basis of innovative change have rarely been made. This book argues that innovation is about creating meaning; that it is inherently social; and is grounded in existing social practices. To understand the social basis of innovation and technology development we have to move beyond the traditional product-centric view on innovations. Integrating concepts from several disciplinary perspectives and detailed analyses of the evolution of Internet-related innovations, including packet-switched computer networks, World Wide Web, and the Linux open source operating system, the book develops foundations for a new theoretical and practical understanding of innovation. For example, it shows that innovative development can occur in two qualitatively different ways, one based on evolving specialization and the other based on recombination of existing socially produced resources. The expanding communication and collaboration networks have increased the importance of the recombinatory mode making mobility of resources, sociotechnical translation mechanisms, and meaning creation in communities of practice increasingly important for innovation research and product development.

As an ever-increasing amount of innovation takes place within networks, companies are collaborating in developing and marketing new products, services and practices. This in turn requires knowledge to flow across company boundaries. This book demonstrates how companies encourage this knowledge to flow in networks that can involve dozens of partners. Substantiated by five in-depth case studies of innovative networks, the authors identify and analyse the solutions implemented by companies in order to meet the key knowledge management challenges they encounter. Theoretical and management implications of the study are then defined. Connecting the organization theory of networks with knowledge management theory, this book will be of great interest to academics and students in business administration, especially in the areas of organization, strategy, supply chains and knowledge management.

This informative book provides an extensive study in the fields of industry structure, firm strategy and public policy through the use of network concepts and indicators. It also elucidates many of the complexities and challenges involved. The contributors explore the role of networks in industries, reflecting a belief that some of the most important analytical and policy questions related to networks must fully consider the industry level. This includes examining the very structure of industries, the role of relationships in different sectoral systems of production and innovation, and the delineation of real industry boundaries. Innovation Networks in Industries will be a useful enhancement to the studies of postgraduate students in the fields of innovation, industrial economics and strategy. It will also be an invaluable guidance tool for academic researchers and policy-makers.

This unique book reveals how Collaborative Innovation Networks (COINs) can be used to achieve resilience to change and external shocks. COINs, which consist of 'cyberteams' of motivated individuals, are self-organizing emergent social systems for coping with external change. The book describes how COINs enable resilience in healthcare, e.g. through teams of patients, family members, doctors and researchers to support patients with chronic diseases, or by reducing infant mortality by forming groups of mothers, social workers, doctors, and policymakers. It also examines COINs within large corporations and how they build resilience by forming, spontaneously and without intervention on the part of the management, to creatively respond to new risks and external threats. The expert contributions also discuss how COINs can benefit startups, offering new self-organizing forms of leadership in which all stakeholders collaborate to develop new products.

Managing Know Who Based Companies written by Sigvald Harryson and has been published by Edward Elgar Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Business & Economics categories.

Harryson (a member of the Executive Committee in Booz Allen & Hamilton's Zurich office) offers advice and theoretical arguments about managing knowledge networks within business organizations. Terming the individuals who function as bridges across various functions and teams the "know whos" and presenting them as central to successful innovation, Harryson suggests that encouraging bridges internally and externally can lead to new competencies, knowledge transfer across divisions, the linking of development efforts to market needs, and enhancement of the cross-functional transfer of both explicit and tacit knowledge from research to manufacturing.
