Since the discovery of X-ray diffraction in 1913 over 100 000 different inorganic substances (also called compounds or phases) have been structurally characterized. The information has been published in some 200 000 publication spread over more than 1 000 different scientific journals. The aim of this reference work is to provide the researcher with a comprehensive compilation of all up to now crystallographically identified inorganic substances in only one volume. All data have been processed and critically evaluated by the "Pauling File" editorial team using a unique software package. Each substance is represented in a single row containing information adapted to the number of chemical elements.

Inorganic Substances written by Rostislav Aleksandrovich Lidin and has been published by Begell House Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Inorganic compounds categories.

This book is an indispensable desk guide for scientists, instructors, students, engineers, and technicians in the chemical industry. Its aim is to be as concise as possible and yet give a detailed summary of inorganic chemistry. The Handbook proceeds from the four systematizing principles of inorganic chemistry, namely, (1) the Periodic Law and structure of atoms, (2) the chemical bond and structure of molecules, (3) the direction of chemical processes and chemical equilibrium, and (4) the classification of substances and their acid base, oxidizing-reducing, and other properties. All the substances in the Handbook are arranged in alphabetical order of their chemical formulas. The set for every element includes entries on both the ionic or molecular substances, and on the actions or anions formed by the element. This enables the book to offfer more information because the entry for an ion contains not only its characteristics, but also a description of the physiochemical properties of the compounds containing the ion, i.e., a whole group of compounds of a single type. The more important compounds are then given separate entries. The chemical formulas of the substances and their names (in English, French, German, Russian and Spanish) are given according to the rules of the IUPAC Commission on the Nomenclature of Inorganic Chemistry and are to be considered the recommended ones. Information is given on how to prepare a substance in industry and in the laboratory, and on the employment of a substance in chemistry and engineering.

This book includes the data on more than 4,000 substances, ions, and radicals chosen with due regard for their industrial and scientific importance. The Handbook consists of six sections arranged in the conventional tabulated form. The first Section gives the formulas and the names of substances, their relative molecular masses, and important physical properties, such as phase-transition temperature, color, aggregate state, and density, along with the data on substance reactivity (chemical properties) with respect to most commonly used solutions and regents (water, ethanol, hydrochloric, sulfuric, and nitric acids, sodium hydroxide, and ammonia hydrate.) The entries that describe naturally occurring substances (minerals) also include their mineralogical names, symmetry, and hardness. There are also data on relative atomic masses of elements, properties of natural and radioactive isotopes, electronic configurations of atoms, energies of ionization, and affinities to electrons for atoms and molecules, binding energies and bond lengths, and structure (geometric form) of constituent molecules and ions of various substances, including coordination compounds. The Handbook also lists thermodynamic constants of the substances in all their aggregate states (gas, liquid, solid state, aqueous solution), redox potentials, acidity and basicity constants, stability constants of complexes in aqueous solution and solubility in water.
