While insects have received limited attention in practical conservation work, the time is more than ripe to prioritize their protection. Every second species on this planet is an insect. They play important roles in many ecosystems, and man depends on their “ecosystem services” like pollination, decomposition and soil formation. Moreover, insects are important food for many birds and other organisms. Recently, alarming results have been published on a decline in insect abundance.
