Inside Out and Back Again is a #1 New York Times bestseller, a Newbery Honor Book, and a winner of the National Book Award! Inspired by the author's childhood experience as a refugee—fleeing Vietnam after the Fall of Saigon and immigrating to Alabama—this coming-of-age debut novel told in verse has been celebrated for its touching child's-eye view of family and immigration. Hà has only ever known Saigon: the thrills of its markets, the joy of its traditions, and the warmth of her friends close by. But now the Vietnam War has reached her home. Hà and her family are forced to flee as Saigon falls, and they board a ship headed toward hope—toward America. This moving story of one girl's year of change, dreams, grief, and healing received four starred reviews, including one from Kirkus which proclaimed it "enlightening, poignant, and unexpectedly funny." An author's note explains how and why Thanhha Lai translated her personal experiences into Hà's story. This updated digital edition also includes an interview with the author, an activity you can do with your family, tips on writing poetry, and discussion questions.

In a time of dynamism and contradiction in Pacific cultural production, a time of 'turning things over' and 'writing from the inside out,' this far-reaching volume provides a comprehensive set of essays and interviews on the emergent literatures of the New Pacific. With its dynamic combination of important position papers, polemics, and decolonizing critiques by noted authors and of analysis by new and established post-colonial scholars, this volume exposes 'the maze and mix of literatures and cultural identities breaking down and building up across the Pacific Ocean.' This pioneering work will be the definitive resource for anyone researching or teaching Pacific literature and will be invaluable for bringing Pacific culture to readers outside the region.

This fourth volume of the Iconicity series is like its predecessors devoted to the study of iconicity in language and literature in all its forms. Many of the papers turn the notion of iconicity 'inside-out', some suggesting that 'less-is-more'; others focus on the cognitive factors 'inside' the brain that are important for the iconic phenomena that are produced in the 'outside' world. In addition this volume includes a paper related to iconicity in music and its interaction with language. Other papers range from the theoretical issues involved in the evolution of language, to those that offer many 'inside-out' claims, such as claiming that nouns are derived from pronouns, and as such should more properly be called 'pro-pronouns'. Also, this volume includes perhaps the first English-language analysis of the iconic aspects of sound symbolism in a prayer from the Koran. This is a truly interdisciplinary collection that should turn some of the notions of iconicity in language and literature 'outside-in' and 'inside-out'.

The business world continues to be fraught with immense risk, uncertainty, and complexity. Post-COVID, we’ve seen the impacts of the war in Ukraine, an increasingly bellicose China, supply chain disruptions worldwide, change caused by artificial intelligence, an ongoing banking crisis in the West, and now the war in the Middle East. Today’s business leaders must be exceptionally resilient, flexible, and agile, and never has it been more critical to create a robust strategic plan than it is today. Using a novel yet simple framework consisting of both the “outside-in” factors (an external environment including customer needs, competition, market dynamics, and trends) as well as the “inside-out” factors (the operating environment within an organization, such as enterprise risks, portfolio analysis, and business performance) that, when understood together, the book will give leaders the tools to make critical strategic choices to propel forward an organization. Outside In, Inside Out is an integrated, easy-to-digest how-to guide that will challenge assumptions and offer tips and tricks of what to do — and, equally importantly, what not to do — to ensure any business develops a competitive edge and achieves success in today’s complex world. Featuring various outside-in and inside-out public examples from the likes of Coca-Cola, Spotify, GM, Airbnb, Microsoft, Nike, Snapchat, Starbucks, IKEA, Intel, Samsung, and more; furthermore, the author takes readers on a journey inside the many organizations for which he has acted as an adviser and brings to the book a practitioner’s in-depth perspective, drawing on nearly three decades of strategic work with more than 80 companies in 11 countries.

Atopic dermatitis (eczema) is one of the most common and most challenging skin conditions, for patients and practitioners alike. Uniquely organized by intrinsic and extrinsic etiologies, Atopic Dermatitis: Inside Out or Outside In? examines a myriad of causes that start from both the inside of the body and from the external environment, offering physicians practical ways to design treatments that specifically address these causes. Drs. Lawrence S. Chan and Vivian Y. Shi, along with a team of expert contributing authors, examine the etiology of this complex disorder and provide targeted, comprehensive solutions and the most useful therapeutic plans based on pathophysiology, including evidence-based integrative management. - Analyzes the pathophysiology of atopic dermatitis from two distinct fronts: inside out and outside in—an approach that is unique in the field. - Begins with an overview of the disease, then delves into both internal and external pathogenic factors, followed by the Clinician's Corner, which offers practical recommendations for treatment. - Organizes therapeutic discussions by corresponding pathophysiology rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. - Covers recently FDA-approved and emerging medications, as well as atopic comorbidities.
