Post Asian Financial Crisis Reforms In Thailand written by Wanxue Lu and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-24 with Political Science categories.

This book is distinguished for its longitudinal, evidence-based policy analysis concerning the impacts of financial regulatory reforms post-crisis, thereby enriching the comprehension of policy impact mechanisms at a micro-level. Distinguished from collections of past events; this monograph is a lens through which the intricate relationships between regulatory changes, market dynamics, and organizational behavior are explored and understood. The study is devoted to a thorough 20-year retrospective analysis of Thailand's financial regulatory reforms and their complex effects on the commercial banking sector. It uncovers how these reforms, particularly the increase in foreign participation, have paradoxically degraded market competition while also not fully achieving their intended goals in financial technology advancement. This nuanced understanding underscores the book's impact in rethinking policy effectiveness and market dynamics in a global context. Moreover, by offering a unique blend of macro- and micro-perspectives, the book delves into how these regulatory impacts materialize at the organizational level. Through an in-depth examination of business practices and governance in banking, it provides vital insights into how family-owned banks in Thailand have navigated economic crises, transitioning from ownership control to management control models.

After the Storm discusses restructuring and growth strategies adopted in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and South Korea after the currency and financial crisis of 1997-98. These four Asian economies were the most adversely affected despite achieving rapid growth in the 1970s and 1980s, with low inflation and current account surpluses. Although macroeconomic fundamentals in these countries were relatively sound prior to the crisis, early analyses of the crisis dwelled on the failure of corporate governance, currency controls and immature financial institutions and infrastructure in some countries. The book offers fresh insights into the causes of the crisis and postcrisis restructuring, the growth strategies adopted, and domestic initiatives taken by these countries. It also reveals why reforms recommended by the IMF, World Bank and others were met with resistance, thereby contributing to the ongoing discourse on the effects of globalisation.

Global inequality has been a burning issue for years now. As the economies progress, it is expected that the benefits of growth will percolate to the lower sections of society. However, this percolation takes place in a discriminating manner. Inequality can be observed in terms of health, income, education, wealth, gender, availability of opportunities, and other socio-economic parameters. The governing authorities and international agencies have been taking various corrective measures to reduce the widening levels of inequality. However, certain external factors like the pandemic can wash away the efforts taken and deteriorate the progress made on the inequality levels in economies. Emerging Trends and Insights on Economic Inequality in the Wake of Global Crises discusses the impact of global disasters and crises on economic inequality. It provides an overview of the evolution of global inequality over the years, increasing different forms of inequalities amidst crises, the corrective measures taken by the national and international agencies, and the way forward for economies with worsening inequalities. Covering topics such as crisis management, digital agriculture, and economic welfare, this premier reference source is an essential resource for economists, business leaders and executives, government officials, students and educators of higher education, sociologists, researchers, and academicians.

Chinese Enterprise Transnationalism And Identity written by Terence Gomez and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-03-01 with Political Science categories.

First Published in 2004. Chinese Enterprise, Transnationalism, and Identity focuses on one ethnic community – the Chinese – and examines the variety of issues surrounding enterprise development from national and transnational perspectives, starting with the role played by Chinese entrepreneurs in the 1997 Asian financial crisis. Using empirical evidence and theoretical debate, the contributors argue that Chinese enterprise is accelerated by intra-ethnic competition, rather than intra-ethnic cooperation, and that businessmen work in their own interest, not that of the Chinese community, as other literature dealing with the subject suggests. Themes which this book radically reviews include: • Culture and networks. • Family business. • Ownership and control. • Transnationalism and identity. By carefully tracing the emergence of new generations, the contributors suggest that new forms of ethnic identification and of national identity and affiliation have emerged. With its combined analysis of ethnic minorities in Asia and of Chinese business, this book will appeal to scholars of Asian and business studies alike.

Handbook Of Research On Asian Business written by Henry Wai-Chung Yeung and has been published by Edward Elgar Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Business & Economics categories.

This volume is excellent. Students who are interested in Asian business should read it and will find the comprehensive bibliography offered by the different contributors very helpful. In light of the recent global financial crises, it is time to re-examine the Asian miracles, as well as the Western models of business organizations and regulations. This volume offers great insights not just on Asian business but also on Western economies and business. It is also time to adopt an integrative approach recommended by Yeung through comparative research of businesses and economies in different institutions and cultures. Yifei Sun, Economic Geography An absolute must-have for college library reference shelves, filled cover-to-cover with keen analyses that any businessperson seeking to make inroads in an Asian market needs to study at length! Midwest Book Review This book serves as an important guide to the many fascinating research questions about Asian business waiting to be addressed. The study of Asian business has reached equality in importance to the study of business in Europe and North America. Researchers who study any of these regions have an incentive to follow the study of business in the other regions, if for no other reason than that many global firms from each region operate in all regions now. Nonetheless, the more important reason for knowledge transfer among researchers of each region is that these exchanges can only advance everyone s research. Henry Yeung and the contributors are to be thanked for setting out a rich agenda for research on Asian business that will elevate this study to equality with research elsewhere in the world. Eurasian Geography and Economics This book is extremely comprehensive and well researched. It will be of particular interest to scholars in the fields of international business, development studies, economic geography, regional studies as well as international and national policymakers. Science Technology & Society The rise of Asia as an important region for global business has been widely recognized as one of the most significant economic phenomena in the new millennium. This accessible and comprehensive Handbook brings together state-of-the-art reviews of Asian business in an expansive range of areas including: business organizations strategic management marketing state business relations business and development business policy issues. It is argued that whilst academic studies on Asian business have been in existence for over two decades, there is relatively little systematic integration of our knowledge and research on Asian business. The contributors, drawn from a variety of disciplines within the social sciences, aim to redress the balance with their lively, cutting-edge discussion. Serving as a timely overview of more than two decades of scholarly research, this Handbook will be an essential resource for academics, students and researchers interested in Asian business.

Thailand Beyond the Crisis includes recent research to give an accurate and up to date picture of the status of Thailand's economic recovery. The Asian economic crisis began in Thailand and ended a decade of sustained economic boom. This book identifies the role of policy errors involving both the Thai government and the IMF that lead to the crash of the fastest growing economy in the world. Warr addresses the consequences of the crisis, including sharply increased poverty incidence and a backlog of non- performing loans which clogged the banking system, delaying recovery. Key content includes: * the Social Consequences of the crisis, and alternatives * public sector reform * implications of a floating exchange rate * education * urbanisation and the environment.
