The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that physical activity is one of the leading risk factors for non-communicable disease deaths worldwide. Several studies have shown that physical activity can reduce the risk of conditions such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Furthermore, exercise has been found to be beneficial in certain mental health conditions and improving the quality of life in patients undergoing cancer treatment. However, WHO estimates that 1 in 4 adults worldwide are not physically active enough. This has led to the development of the WHO global action plan on increasing physical activity, which includes integrating physical activity into primary health care. Globally, primary care professionals are already prescribing lifestyle changes, including those aimed at increasing physical activity. Examples of this include, prescription of gym memberships and initiatives that aim to better educate physicians on the benefits of physical activity on patient health. This research topic aims to discuss: • The effectiveness of exercise/lifestyle recommendations in improving patient outcomes in primary care. • Assessing physical activity in primary care practice • The use of exercise prescription to manage neurological diseases • The uptake of patients completing a recommended exercise plan and what can be done to increase this. • The importance of communication between the patient and physician in implementing the exercise plan and how this could be improved. • Confounding factors that affect the patient in following an exercise plan/ lifestyle recommendation. • Examples of where exercise recommendations by primary health care professionals have been successfully implemented in a real world setting. • Examples of successful clinical and community collaborations with allied health professionals such as exercise physiologists

Exercise, a healthy diet, stress management, sound sleep: Most practitioners would agree that living well can mitigate the impact of mental disorders. Yet many are unprepared to address lifestyle factors in their care of patients. Lifestyle Psychiatry seeks to instill confidence by collating and analyzing the impressive emerging body of evidence that supports the efficacy of healthy lifestyle practices -- both as the primary intervention and in conjunction with traditional treatments such as psychopharmacology or psychotherapy -- in preventing and managing psychiatric disorders. This volume examines the impact of lifestyle interventions -- from exercise, yoga, and tai chi to mindfulness and meditation, diet and nutrition, and sleep management -- on psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, and addiction. Readers can readily find data to support the use of specific lifestyle interventions for a patient presenting with a specific disorder. Detailed descriptions of the mechanisms of each lifestyle intervention also prepare practitioners to educate their patients on the specific neurobiological and psychological effects of these interventions to support their recovery. With chapters that focus on developing a robust therapeutic alliance and inspiring patients to assume responsibility for their own well-being, this guide provides a framework for lasting, sustainable lifestyle changes. Additionally, the book discusses the impact of the provider's lifestyle on clinical behavior and the implications of lifestyle medicine and psychiatry for health care systems and population health, offering a broader examination of the important role this new field can play in leading a sophisticated, holistic approach to optimizing wellness.

Detox Diet Facts written by Cassian Pereira and has been published by Publifye AS this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-03-14 with Health & Fitness categories.
Detox Diet Facts explores the popular world of detox diets and cleanses, offering an evidence-based analysis of their purported benefits and potential risks. The book highlights the body's natural detoxification systems, primarily the liver and kidneys, and how these organs efficiently eliminate waste under normal conditions. It challenges the notion that specific diets can ""detoxify"" the body beyond its inherent capabilities, emphasizing that many commercially available detox diets lack scientific validation. The book debunks widespread health claims associated with detox diets, encouraging a critical approach to evaluating health interventions. It provides a historical overview of cleansing practices and a foundation in basic human biology, focusing on the function of key organs involved in waste elimination. For example, the book elucidates how the liver processes toxins, transforming them into substances that can be safely excreted, a process often misunderstood in popular detox narratives. Structured in three parts, the book progresses from explaining natural detoxification processes to examining various detox diets and providing practical guidelines for healthy eating and lifestyle choices. Readers gain insights into assessing the validity of health claims and making informed dietary decisions, grounded in scientific evidence. This approach distinguishes the book by providing a comprehensive, fact-based perspective, drawing connections between health, fitness, biology, and life sciences, rather than promoting specific regimens.
