This IBM® Redbooks® publication introduces the IBM System z® Personal Development Tool (zPDT®), which runs on an underlying Linux system based on an Intel processor. zPDT provides a System z system on a PC capable of running current System z operating systems, including emulation of selected System z I/O devices and control units. It is intended as a development, demonstration, and learning platform and is not designed as a production system. This book, providing specific installation instructions, is the second of three volumes. The first volume describes the general concepts of zPDT and a syntax reference for zPDT commands and device managers. The third volume discusses more advanced topics that may not interest all zPDT users. The IBM order numbers for the three volumes are SG24-7721, SG24-7722, and SG24-7723. The systems discussed in these volumes are complex, with elements of Linux (for the underlying PC machine), IBM z/Architecture® (for the core zPDT elements), System z I/O functions (for emulated I/O devices), and IBM z/OS® (providing the System z application interface), and possibly with other System z operating systems. We assume the reader is familiar with the general concepts and terminology of System z hardware and software elements and with basic PC Linux characteristics.

This IBM® Redbooks® publication provides both introductory information and technical details for ISV IBM Z® Program Development Tool (IBM zPDT®), which produces a small IBM zSystems environment that is suitable for application development. ISV zPDT is a personal computer (PC) Linux application. When ISV zPDT is installed on Linux, normal IBM zSystems operating systems (such as IBM z/OS®) may be run on it. ISV zPDT provides the basic IBM zSystems architecture and provides emulated IBM 3390 disk drives, 3270 interfaces, Open Systems Adapter (OSA) interfaces, and other items. The systems that are described in this publication are complex, with elements of Linux (for the underlying PC machine), IBM z/Architecture® (for the core zPDT elements), IBM zSystems I/O functions (for emulated I/O devices), z/OS (the most common IBM zSystems operating system), and various applications and subsystems under z/OS. We assume that the reader is familiar with general concepts and terminology of IBM zSystems hardware and software elements, and with basic PC Linux characteristics. This publication provides the primary documentation for ISV zPDT and corresponds to zPDT V1 R11, commonly known as GA11.

Zpdt 2016 Sysplex Extensions written by Frank Kyne and has been published by IBM Redbooks this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-10 with Computers categories.

This IBM® Redbooks® publication describes the IBM zPDT® 2016 Sysplex Extensions, which is a package that consists of sample files and supporting documentation to help you get a functioning, data sharing, sysplex up and running with minimal time and effort. This package is designed and tested to be installed on top of a standard ADCD environment. It provides the extra files that you need to create a two-way data sharing IBM z/OS® 2.1 or z/OS 2.2 sysplex that runs under ADCD in a zPDT environment. This package differs from the previous zPDT sysplex package in that it provides working examples of more sysplex exploiters. It also is designed to adhere to IBM's sysplex best practice recommendations, in as far as is possible in a zPDT environment. Although the package was not tested with IBM Rational® Development and Test for IBM System z® (RD&T), it might be used to reduce the effort to create a fully functional sysplex under RD&T. Conceptually, the package might also be restored and used as a template to create a sysplex environment that is running on a real IBM z SystemsTM CPC. The target audience for this document is system programmers that are responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining IBM Parallel Sysplex® environments. It can also be beneficial to developers that currently maintain their own ADCD environments and want to extend them to add sysplex functions.

This IBM® Redbooks® publication describes the usage of Coupling Facility (CF) functions with the IBM System z® Personal Development Tool (zPDT). It describes the System z Coupling Application Developer Controlled Distribution, which is a Parallel Sysplex® "starter system" based on the AD-CD package and lists the exact steps taken to turn the normal AD-CD z/OS® system into a Parallel Sysplex base. This document assumes that the reader is familiar with basic zPDT usage and terminology, with z/OS, with the z/OS AD-CD system, with basic z/VM® usage, and with general Parallel Sysplex concepts. It is not intended as an introduction to any of these topics. This version of the document is based on z/VM 6.2 (as available to authorized users in an AD-CD package) and z/OS 1.13 (as available to authorized users in the January 2013 update of the AD-CD package).

Running Mainframe Z On Distributed Platforms written by Kenneth Barrett and has been published by Apress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03-18 with Computers categories.

"Running Mainframe z on Distributed Platforms is particularly suitable for a more detailed discussion." Bill Ogden, IBM zPDT Redbook, April 2015 "The authors offer very well-reasoned solutions accompanied by case studies, which will be useful to specialists. The book is made even more useful as the System z mainframe-based solutions offer an advanced systems management environment for significant segments of data within large companies." Eugen Petac, Computing Reviews, Oct. 8, 2014 "Should you choose to implement zPDT, RDz UT, or RD&T in your team's arsenal, you will find Barrett and Norris’s insights, genius, and hard work illuminating as to how to rationally and economically manage the environment." —Scott Fagen, Chief Architect—System z Business, CA Technologies "A must-read for anyone interested in successfully deploying cost-efficient zPDT environments with agility in an enterprise that requires simpleor complex configurations. The case-study-based exposition of the content allows for its easy consumption and use. Excellent!" —Mahendra Durai, SVP & Information Technology Officer, CA Running Mainframe z on Distributed Platforms reveals alternative techniques not covered by IBM for creatively adapting and enhancing multi-user IBM zPDT environments so that they are more friendly, stable, and reusable than those envisaged by IBM. The enhancement processes and methodologies taught in this book yield multiple layers for system recovery, 24x7 availability, and superior ease of updating and upgrading operating systems and subsystems without having to rebuild environments from scratch. Most of the techniques and processes covered in this book are not new to either the mainframe or distributed platforms. What is new in this book are the authors’ innovative methods for taking distributed environments running mainframe virtual machine (VM) and multiplevirtual storage (MVS) and making them look and feel like other MVS systems. The authors’ combined expertise involves every aspect of the implementation of IBM zPDT technology to create virtualized mainframe environments by which the mainframe operations on a z series server can be transitioned to distributed platforms. All of the enhancement methods consecutively laid out in this book have been architected and developed by the authors for the CA Technologies distributed platform. Barrett and Norris impart these techniques and processes to CIOs and CTOs across the mainframe and distributed fields, to zPDT and RDz UT implementers, and to IBM’s independent software vendors and customers.
