The genre of Genesis is a Narrative History, and Genealogies. It was written by Moses about 1450-1410 B.C. Key personalities include Adam, Eve, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebekah, Jacob, and Joseph. This book was written to record God's creation of the world and to demonstrate His love for all that He created. Genesis is the first book of the Law and also the first book of the entire Bible. The name Genesis literally means "In the Beginning." It explains the actual events of one of the most debated subjects of our current day...the origin of life. Genesis describes the Lord God, who is infinite and all-powerful, creating everything that exists, by the power of His spoken Word, out of nothing. He essentially creates material matter out of nonmaterial nothing.

Construction Of Gender And Identity In Genesis written by Karalina Matskevich and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-01-24 with Religion categories.

Karalina Matskevich examines the structures that map out the construction of gendered and national identities in Genesis 2–3 and 12–36. Matskevich shows how the dominant 'Subject' – the androcentric ha'adam and the ethnocentric Israel – is perceived in relation to and over against the 'Other', represented respectively as female and foreign. Using the tools of narratology, semiotics and psychoanalysis, Matskevich highlights the contradiction inherent in the project of dominance, through which the Subject seeks to suppress the transforming power of difference it relies on for its signification. Thus, in Genesis 2-3 ha'adam can only emerge as a complex Subject in possession of knowledge with the help of woman, the transforming Other to whom the narrator (and Yahweh) attributes both the agency and the blame. Similarly, the narratives of Genesis 12–36 show a conflicted attitude to places of alterity: Egypt, the fertile and seductive space that threatens annihilation, and Haran, the 'mother's land', a complex metaphor for the feminine. The construction of identity in these narratives largely relies on the symbolic fecundity of the Other.

This volume represents the launch of The Bible Question by Question series. Intended for Bible study groups, individual reading, or classroom use, the volumes in this series provide a methodical approach to Bible study that incorporates the practical insights of modern biblical research. The Book of Genesis: Question by Question was designed to assist individuals or groups who are planning to read the entire book of Genesis, and who want to gain a full understanding of its meaning, its authorship, and the circumstances under which it was written. This book is not intended to compete with major commentaries, but rather to guide readers who want to work with the Genesis stories right away, and who can subsequently develop an appetite for some of the wealth of fine details found in other modern reference works. Readers are encouraged to develop religious appreciations and overviews as they progress toward the end of the journey, rather than at the start. This book is divided into a series of sections based on individual stories or remarks made by the various authors and editors of Genesis. For each section an introduction provides the basic information needed to read that biblical story in line with current scholarship, but much comment and analysis is held in reserve until the readers have moved on to try their hand at the questions. The answers at the end of the book should be consulted by readers after they have invested time in reflection and in writing down their own responses. In each section the conclusions that follow the question and answer process are meant to be practical rather than exhaustive, since the goal is to move on to the next section with the same plan--to get hands on the verses of the next story. Taken together, this book provides an excellent introduction to Genesis, and constitutes the ideal launch of what is destined to be a widely popular series for Bible study. +

Genesis 1–11: A Narrative Theological Commentary combines critical acumen with concern for the theological message of Scripture. It is a commentary in two stages. First, the text is allowed to speak for itself, using a narrative approach. Then, specific Jewish and Christian traditions flowing from the text are identified, and the underlying hermeneutical moves analyzed.
