Brexit And The Political Economy Of Ireland written by Paul Teague and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-03 with Business & Economics categories.
The UK’s departure from the EU has profoundly affected the politics and economics of Northern Ireland. Brexit has shattered a political accommodation that was taking shape in the region that involved nationalism and unionism refraining from aggressively pursuing their own objectives or making excessive demands on each other. Economically, it has made the task of building an innovative economy in the region immeasurably more difficult. Without radical change, Northern Ireland is destined to be an economic outhouse of an under-performing UK economy. This book represents the first systematic study of the impact of Brexit on the political and economic future of Northern Ireland and Ireland. It provides a detailed assessment of the consequences of the Belfast Agreement and highlights how Brexit imperils the advances that have been made since its signing in 1998. It makes a dispassionate assessment of the changes that may be necessary to create a stronger Northern Ireland economy. On the one hand, demands for the immediate unification of Ireland that are now being made loudly and persistently by nationalists and republicans are considered too precipitous. The two economies on the island are not yet ready for Irish unity. On the other hand, the book argues the case for a radical reorientation of the Northern Ireland economy through the incremental creation of an all-Ireland economy. The book cuts through the rhetoric that characterizes so much discussion about the Northern Ireland economy and provides a hard-headed appraisal of not only its structure and performance, but also the economic feasibility of Irish unity.

Africa–Europe Cooperation and Digital Transformation explores the opportunities and challenges for cooperation between Africa and Europe in the digital sphere. Digitalisation and digital technologies are not only essential for building competitive and dynamic economies; they transform societies, pose immense challenges for policymakers, and increasingly play a pivotal role in global power relations. Digital transformations have had catalytic effects on African and European governance, economies, and societies, and will continue to do so. The COVID-19 pandemic has already accelerated the penetration of digital tools all over the globe and is likely to be perceived as a critical juncture in how and to what purpose the world accepts and uses new and emerging technologies. This book offers a holistic analysis of how Africa and Europe can manage and harness digital transformation as partners in a globalised world. The authors shed light on issues ranging from economic growth, youth employment, and gender, to regulatory frameworks, business environments, entrepreneurship, and interest-driven power politics. They add much-needed perspectives to the debates that shape the two continents’ digital transformation and innovation environments. This book will interest practitioners working in the areas of innovation, digital technologies, and digital entrepreneurship, as well as students and scholars of international relations. It will also be relevant for policymakers, regulators, decision-makers, and leaders in Africa and Europe. **HEALING INTERGENERATIONAL TRAUMA IN EUROPE RUSSIA: MEDIATION FOR PEACE, PROSPERITY AND HAPPINESS** At this critical moment in European history, David Hoicka—principal mediator from neutral Singapore—presents a transformative approach to the escalating tensions between Europe and Russia. This groundbreaking work reveals how unresolved historical trauma drives current conflicts while offering practical pathways toward healing. Neither a conventional diplomatic analysis nor a simplistic call for harmony, Hoicka's approach combines rigorous historical understanding with proven mediation methodologies adapted from successful reconciliation processes worldwide. The book illuminates how trauma transmitted across generations profoundly shapes how nations perceive and respond to one another—often below the threshold of conscious awareness. From the royal marriages that connected Kyivan Rus with medieval European kingdoms to the shared triumph over fascism in World War II, Hoicka demonstrates how the rich history of cooperation between these civilizations challenges narratives of inevitable division. Building on insights from his previous works on intergenerational trauma and historical peacemaking, and drawing inspiration from Singapore's remarkable transformation from ethnic division to prosperous harmony, Hoicka offers concrete frameworks for addressing historical grievances while building relationships beyond traumatic pasts. For political leaders, diplomats, business executives, community organizers, and concerned citizens, this book provides essential understanding and practical tools for one of the defining challenges of our time: transforming the relationship between Europe and Russia from conflict to cooperation before it's too late.
