Integrating Math and Science in Early Childhood Classrooms Through Big Ideas offers teachers a way to think about the future classroom and to meet the needs of children who come to into it with diverse experience, knowledge, and abilities. “Change how we think about math and science for young children,” the authors say in their Preface. “Instead of separating the disciplines, planning lessons and topics and projects aimed at math OR science content, let’s look at the world the way the child does. Children think in terms of big ideas.” In this unique book, the authors focus on big ideas—like patterns, transformation, movement, balance, and relationships—as a way to think about content, and they integrate science and mathematics through these big ideas, rather than linking them topically. The book looks at why it is important to think about thinking, introduces assessment early to help the teacher plan for assessment before teaching even begins, and sets up an environment that will support the construction of the big ideas that integrate math and science. Real-life scenarios provide invaluable insights into the teacher’s thinking and planning, and each chapter includes two modules to be used for in-depth exploration of different aspects of the big ideas. It’s a unique exploration of thinking and learning.

Presenting a compelling case for changing our system of education from a graded, curriculum-centered approach to a multiage, child-centered approach, Understanding Multiage Education is a comprehensive exploration of the philosophy and foundations of multiage education. Veteran educators Stone and Burriss examine the "why" of multiage education, exploring how multiage classrooms' structure, environment, strategies, and assessments unfold and complement the multiage philosophy and pedagogy. Delineating the differences between a standard and a mixed-age approach, each chapter features Inside Insights, short vignettes, case studies, examples of multiage in practice and discussion questions challenging readers to engage with the core concepts and examine how we might define success in a multiage classroom. Designed for graduate-level students of early childhood, elementary, and general education courses, as well as experienced practitioners, this is an essential guide for anyone interested in understanding the rationale, implementation, and benefits of multiage education.

This book contains accepted papers presented at ICEUTE 2020 held in the beautiful and historic city of Burgos (Spain), in September 2020. The 11th International Conference on EUropean Transnational Education (ICEUTE 2020) has been a meeting point for people working on transnational education within Europe. It has provided a stimulating and fruitful forum for presenting and discussing the latest works and advances on transnational education within European countries. After a thorough peer-review process, the ICEUTE 2020 International Program Committee selected 44 papers which are published in these conference proceedings achieving an acceptance rate of 41%. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the ICEUTE 2020 edition was blended, combining on-site and on-line participation. In this relevant edition, a special emphasis was put on the organization of five special sessions related to relevant topics as Role of English in Transnational Education and Teacher Training, Personalization and ICT: a Path to Educational Inclusion, Innovation and Research Findings in Engineering Higher Education, Practical Implementations of Novel Initiatives, and Innovation in Computer Science Higher Education. The selection of papers was extremely rigorous in order to maintain the high quality of the conference, and we would like to thank the members of the Program Committees for their hard work in the reviewing process. This is a crucial process to the creation of a high standard conference, and the ICEUTE conference would not exist without their help.
