My Mother S Dream written by George Henderson and has been published by Charles C Thomas Publisher this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-31 with Social Science categories.

From the Preface: “The primary audience for this book is first-generation college students. Whether they are in two-year or four-year colleges, I give the readers an example of the power of a parent’s dream, the positive and negative outcomes of a student’s hard work, the stuff caring teachers and supportive school administrators are made of, and the significance of resilience, tenacity, and self-growth. Hopefully, my story will give those who read this book a dose of what stick-to-itiveness means up close and personal…. My foremost message to first-generation and other-generation students is to ask for help when you are stumped, seize whatever opportunities to help you improve, and do your best work. Secondly, this book is written for teachers, school counselors, nurses, and other personnel who help students during their educational journeys. Their assistance can be helpful or hurtful to whatever generation of students they are helping. What they do to students and how they do it matters hugely. Thirdly, this book is written for professional helpers who are not school-related but who want to become better helpers in other careers. Lastly, this book is written for people who are not professional helpers but are curious about the travails and struggles of poverty-stricken people like me and my family…. I have had a long, tedious journey from illiteracy to literacy, from segregation to desegregation, from poverty to affluence, and from disliking people who came from cultures different from my own to loving them. Nonviolent theories and behavior were like a river flowing through my life, slowly during my childhood and adolescence and rapidly after I enrolled in college. The Civil Rights Movement is the name of that river. It was the foremost foundation upon which I built my philosophy of helping other people. So, of course, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was my hero, role model, and guide. His words and strategies of change are generously sprinkled throughout the later chapters of this book….”

This book covers the theory, design and applications of computer networks, distributed computing and information systems. Networks of today are going through a rapid evolution and there are many emerging areas of information networking and their applications. Heterogeneous networking supported by recent technological advances in low-power wireless communications along with silicon integration of various functionalities such as sensing, communications, intelligence and actuations is emerging as a critically important disruptive computer class based on a new platform, networking structure and interface that enable novel, low-cost and high-volume applications. Several such applications have been difficult to realize because of many interconnection problems. To fulfill their large range of applications, different kinds of networks need to collaborate and wired and next-generation wireless systems should be integrated in order to develop high-performance computing solutions to problems arising from the complexities of these networks. This book aims to provide the latest research findings, innovative research results, methods and development techniques from both theoretical and practical perspectives related to the emerging areas of information networking and applications.

"Advising and Supporting in Student Affairs is a practical guide that will help student affairs professionals do the perpetual reflection needed to sustain themselves in a career that requires they bring their whole self to work in order to be good company for students and in community. It brings into focus essential aspects of professional development, such as how to raise your self-awareness, how to reflect on your personal and professional identity, and how to do so in the context of the standards and competencies of the profession. It is a unique offering to the profession that extends beyond reviewing the literature or reporting the competencies. It assumes that to be competent in advising and supporting students, student affairs professionals must not only possess the skills, knowledges, and dispositions to complete the basic tasks, but also, they need to build the stamina to situate themselves in relation to the challenges they are facing in their professional lives. This type of reflection asks that student affairs professionals strive to make meaning of their identity, background, historical context, cultural norms, and institutional dynamics as they work with students. Through a specific focus from each of the chapter authors, the editors provide specific guidance on professional competencies that goes beyond surface-level understanding of the 'what' (specific policies, ethical guidelines) and into inviting a more thoughtful connection between those and the all-important 'why and how' (reflective action, traversing conflict, and controversy). That is, it offers content along with the processes of how to engage these professional ideals in real life by providing relevant examples through case studies and practice scenarios. Also, essential guidance is given on how to reflect and to learn and absorb lessons that will help the student affairs professional embody a whole life in the profession"--

Integrated Forest Biorefineries written by Lew Christopher and has been published by Royal Society of Chemistry this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-09-30 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This reference book describes how bioprocessing and biotechnology could enhance the value extracted from wood-based lignocellulosic fiber by employing both biochemical and thermochemical conversion processes. It documents recent accomplishments and suggests future prospects for research and development of integrated forest biorefineries (IFBR) as the path forward for the pulp, paper and other fiber-processing industries. This is the only book to cover this area of high economic, social, and environmental importance. It is aimed at industrialists and academics from diverse science and engineering backgrounds including chemical and biotechnology companies, governmental and professional bodies, and scholarly societies. The Editor and contributors are internationally recognized scientists and many are leaders in their respective fields. The book starts with an introductory overview of the current state of biorefining and a justification for future developments. The next four chapters deal with social, economic and environmental issues related to regulations, biomass production and supply, process modelling, and life cycle analysis. Subsequent chapters focus on the extraction of biochemicals from biomass and their potential utilization to add value to the IFBR prior to pulping. The book then presents, compares and evaluates two types of forest biorefineries based on kraft and organosolv pulping. Finally, the book assess the potential of waste biomass and streams, such paper mill sludge and black liquor, to serve as feedstock for biofuel production and value-added biomaterials through both the biochemical and thermochemical routes of biomass bioprocessing. The economics of the described IFBR processes and products, and their environmental impact, is a major focus in most of the chapters. Practical examples are presented where relevant and applicable.
