MENDING OURSELVES is a gift from the open hearts of those who are healing, to the wounded, everywhere: a remarkable collection of essays, poetry & art shared by over fifty readers of MANY VOICES, an international newsletter for people healing from trauma-related dissociative disorders. Though many books have been written about "multiple personality" & its variants, this is the first to concentrate on the tasks of healing & self-integration. As children overwhelmed by abuse or pain, these writers & artists are instinctively "hid within," splitting off the agony & despair from consciousness. Guided by therapists, these brave women & men have spent years unfolding their histories, dealing as adults with the walled-off feelings, chaos, & horrible experiences they endured so long ago. But though most lived through a brutal past, this is not a brutal book. It is threaded with hope, with practical advice from people who have "been there". It is not easy to rebuild a unified self. But these survivors show it can be done. MENDING OURSELVES is of particular interest to abuse survivors, family, friends, & their therapists. But the creative power unlocked in the healing process can be appreciated by all who yearn for the triumph of person over pain.

This workbook grew out of the practices assigned for self-growth and development for (1) Holistic Health: Western Perspectives, a course at San Francisco State Uni versity; (2) clients and participants at the Biofeedback and Family Therapy Institute in Berkeley; and (3) participants in peak performance training programs. The goals of this workbook are to offer experiences to facilitate life-long learning of skills to enhance health and growth. We hope the reader will experience increased autonomy and gain self-mastery skills through exercises that foster awareness and control. The cascading program is based upon uncovering, allowing, and encouraging the intrinsic drive toward integration, wholeness, and health. Each year many of our students report that practicing these skills has affected them deeply. The program offered them prag matic skills to master stress, set goals, and experience a deep change in their worldview and health. A number of them have said that this was the most useful course they had taken at San Francisco State University. The materials presented here are part of a course offered by the Institute for Holistic Healing Studies. It is also a requirement for a Holistic Health Minor and fulfills a part of the general education requirement for integrated and interdisci plinary learning. The development of this program at San Francisco State Uni versity is due to the foresight and courage of George Araki, Ph.D.

A revolutionary healing framework that is a blueprint for transforming most problems, ranging from the most pedestrian to the most treatment resistant. And sometimes, the transformation simply takes one hour. The One-Hour Miracle: A 5-Step Process to Guide Your Self-Healing presents the revolutionary Life-Centered Therapy (LCT), a healing framework that is a blueprint for transforming most problems--physical (such as chronic pain, asthma, addictions), emtional and mental (including depresssion, PTSD, OCD, paranoia) relational (releasing destructive patterns), and spiritual (alienation, despair, inertia), And sometimes, the transformation simply takes one hour. Filled with testimonials of real-life people who have benefitted from this approach when other attempts to end their suffering turned up fruitless, it provides people with an entirely new way of understanding their suffering, giving them inspiration and hope that they can create miracles in their lives. The One-Hour Miracle includes a protocol that allows people to facilitate this process on their own by finding the root cause of their suffering and shifting it. This framework helps them live engaged lives of freedom, peace, joy, wisdom, and vitality. In the book, co-authors Andrew Hahn, PsyD, and Joan Beckett, LMHC, will teach readers how to do this work for themselves and others. With step-by-step instructions, readers are led through a five-step process, an integration of mindfulness and body-centered therapy, that guides them through their own self-healing practices and how to do them. In addition, therapists who are reading the book will have enough information to immediately start using the approach with clients without needing more training

We are all interested in knowing who we are and the purpose of our lives. Our healing gives us the opportunity to understand ourselves better and therefore achieve better health. When we take more responsibility for our healing, we can expand more our levels of knowledge and welfare. During the journey you will take upon reading my book, you will fi nd the opportunity to share with me my sincere wishes to fi nd a better welfare for ourselves, as human beings, and the universe in general. I was born in Surata, Colombia. I fi nished my medical studies at the medical school of the Universidad del Valle and University Hospital in Cali, Colombia; the Lutheran Medical Center in Cleveland; and the Charity Hospital of New Orleans, Tulane Division, where I did my specialization in obstetrics and gynecology. Through my human experience, I have been in different places and at different times, but in the deepest core of my being, there has always been a need for a better relationship with myself and with my outer world. I have always wanted to vividly live more consciously, my knowledge and my experience of holistic medicine as integral as a hologram. My relationship with nature, my sports, among others, and the need to live in a family that is increasingly healthier physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as well have been the key drivers of my enigmas and dilemmas in finding my self healing. Let us create more hope.

A state-of-art guide on the interdisciplinary aspects of design, chemistry, and physical properties of bio-inspired self-healing polymers Inspired by the natural self-healing properties that exist in living organisms—for example, the regenerative ability of humans to heal from cuts and broken bones—interest in self-healing materials is gaining more and more attention. Addressing the broad advances being made in this emerging science, Self-Healing Polymers and Polymer Composites incorporates fundamentals, theory, design, fabrication, characterization, and application of self-healing polymers and polymer composites to describe how to prepare self-healing polymeric materials, how to increase the speed of crack repair below room temperature, and how to broaden the spectrum of healing agent species. Some of the information readers will discover in this book include: Focus on engineering aspects and theoretical backgrounds of smart materials The systematic route for developing techniques and materials to advance the research and applications of self-healing polymers Integration of existing techniques and introduction of novel synthetic approaches and target-oriented materials design and fabrication Techniques for characterizing the healing process of polymers and applications of self-healing polymers and polymer composites Practical aspects of self-healing technology in various industrial fields, such as electronics, automotive, construction, chemical production, and engineering With this book, readers will have a comprehensive understanding of this emerging field, while new researchers will understand the framework necessary for innovating new self-healing solutions.
