Il presente volume raccoglie i contributi del gruppo di ricerca CIRB sull’intelligenza artificiale con l’intento di costituire un laboratorio di riflessione sul tema nelle sue diverse declinazioni, filosofica, etica, giuridica, medica, tecnico-scientifica. Quella tra bioetica e intelligenza artificiale, come si evidenzia nell’introduzione del Curatore, è una relazione ancora da costruire. Ci troviamo all’alba di un tempo in cui le applicazioni dell’IA si prestano potenzialmente ad essere presenti in quasi tutte le attività dell’uomo, dando nuovo significato allo sviluppo tecnologico così come classicamente inteso. Emerge l’interrogativo di fondo: l’intelligenza artificiale è solo strumento “meccanico” per quanto avanzato o va oltre il suo stesso “creatore”, l’uomo e l’umano, segnandone una nuova dimensione? Delle due l’una: o l’IA comporta solo una nuova tecnologia dell’umano, in una dimensione che resta antropocentrica, oppure la nuova rivoluzione tecnologica, segnata da un’intelligenza destinata a superare, a sostituire quella umana, arrivando a prescindere da questa, comporterà una trasfigurazione stessa dell’identità dell’uomo.
