Writing Muslim Identity written by Geoffrey Nash and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-01-26 with Literary Criticism categories.

The relationship between Islam and the West is one of the most urgent and hotly debated issues of our time. This book is the first to offer a comprehensive overview of the way in which Muslims are represented within modern English writing, ranging from the novel, through memoir and travel writing to journalism. Covering a wide range of texts and authors, it scrutinises the identity 'Muslim' by looking at its inscription in recent and contemporary literary writing within the context of significant events like the Rushdie Affair and 9/11. Examining the wide range of writing internationally that takes Islam or Islamic cultures as its focus, the author discusses the representation of Muslim identity in writing by non-Muslim writers, former Muslim 'native informants', and practising Muslims.

Heidegger Rorty And The Eastern Thinkers written by Wei Zhang and has been published by State University of New York Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02-01 with Philosophy categories.

Wei Zhang joins the ongoing hermeneutic quest for understanding and appropriating the East-West encounter and cross-cultural engagement by exploring Martin Heidegger's and Richard Rorty's cross-cultural encounters with Eastern thinkers. Zhang begins by examining Rorty's correspondence with Indian philosopher Anindita N. Balslev, outlining their debate about the discipline of comparative philosophy and curriculum reform, as well as the nature or origin of philosophy itself. She then focuses on the dialogue between Heidegger and a Japanese professor concerning the nature of human language and discusses whether Heidegger's view of language allows for a true understanding between East and West or whether it admits only misunderstanding and prejudice are possible. Finally, the author presents a conceptual dialogue with Heidegger's primary text on hermeneutics and phenomenology, Ontology—The Hermeneutics of Facticity. Utilizing the dialogues and correspondence between Heidegger, Rorty, and the Eastern thinkers as textual examples, Zhang deconstructs and recovers layers of misconceptions of the various interpretations of the East-West encounter.

Remembering Empire written by Karudapuram Eachambadi Supriya and has been published by Peter Lang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Foreign Language Study categories.

Based on an ethnography of Fort St. George Museum in Chennai (formerly Madras), India, Remembering Empire explores the public and private politics of preserving the memory of the British period in the former seat of the British East India Company. K. E. Supriya shows how the preservation of artifacts and paintings from the British period has become a means through which the imperialist politics of empire are reworked in the cultural memory of the South Indian people. Fieldwork in the museum and extensive interviews across three generations show how Indians reconcile with the Britishness of Indian identity. Woven throughout is the author's probing commentary on the significance of affirmative conversations about racialized pasts in the United States. Remembering Empire is essential reading for anyone interested in postcolonial India and the politics of cultural memory.

This interdisciplinary work discusses the construction, maintenance, evolution, and destruction of home and community spaces, which are central to the development of social cohesion. By examining how people throughout the world form different communities to establish a sense of home, the volume surveys the formation of identity within the context of rapid development, global and domestic neoliberal and political governmental policies, and various societal pressures. The themes of cooperation, conflict, inclusion, exclusion, and balance require negotiation between different actors (e.g., the state, professional developers, social activists, and residents) as homes and communities develop.

It represents an effort to reverse a dangerous, and possible destructive tide in human existence. Dr. Segesvary's work links the phenomenon of globalization to the increasing importance of inter-civilizational relations - these latter representing the powerful counter-current to the globalizing trend.

World State Nation States Or Non Centralized Institutions written by Victor Segesvary and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Political Science categories.

World state or nation-states? Democratic or hegemonic transnational order? Illusions and delusions. . . Ethnic conflicts, religious fundamentalism and evanescent, hard-to-grasp worldwide terrorism--what will be humanity's political future? This study is the first to try to find non-conventional solutions to this problem. Its intent is to induce people to invent new ways of political reordering based on prevailing trends in civil societies, and to think of adopting hitherto unimaginable, entirely new political-institutional forms. A second innovating aspect is its linking such a political reordering to the achievements of scientific and technological progress, the availability of the latest information and communication technologies. Political communities' networking is seen as the only way to realize the ideas proposed through linking the new institutional entities in a non-centralized framework.
