Este livro, fruto de pesquisa de mestrado, apresenta um estudo sobre a utilização da música com objetivos terapêuticos em diversos contextos clínicos da saúde, tomando como base o referencial teórico da Musicoterapia e da Bioética. A partir dos questionamentos sobre a prática clínica dos profissionais da saúde e de como evitar que a música faça mal ao paciente, tomando como referência os princípios da beneficência e da não-maleficência, buscou-se identificar características das práticas dos profissionais que utilizam a música na saúde e os fatores que podem ser considerados de risco para desencadear um efeito iatrogênico. A música é benéfica em várias situações. Entretanto, não deve ser utilizada de forma indiscriminada como se fosse uma farmacopeia musical, evitando, assim, colocar em risco a saúde física e/ou mental do paciente. Quando alguém não quer ver alguma coisa fecha os olhos, mas com a música não cabe simplesmente tapar os ouvidos, pois além de ouvir com nossos ouvidos, ouvimos também com o nosso corpo. Espera-se que haja uma maior reflexão por parte dos musicoterapeutas sobre a música em Musicoterapia e a prevenção da ocorrência de iatrogenia quanto à sua aplicação na clínica musicoterápica. Também, que os diversos profissionais da saúde tomem consciência dos possíveis efeitos da utilização da música - benéficos e maléficos - e busquem maior embasamento teórico-científico relacionado a esta prática. É fundamental que se abandone o senso comum em relação à aplicação da música com objetivos terapêuticos, voltados, quase sempre, para uma busca de relaxamento por meio da música.

Muitas pacientes se encontram fragilizadas quando descobrem que terão dificuldade para engravidar. Quando são submetidas à fertilização assistida (FIV e ICSI) e não conseguem atingir seu objetivo de gerar filhos, entram em depressão e o apoio psicológico em geral e em particular com musicoterapia, é fundamental. Assim as pacientes atendidas no Centro de Reprodução Humana (LabRep) do Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade Federal de Goiás, tiveram o privilégio de serem atendidas pela Profa. Eliamar ajudando-as a superar esse obstáculo em suas vidas. O livro ilustra bem as técnicas de aplicação da musicoterapia, inclui entrevistas com pacientes e a metodologia para avaliação estatística dos resultados do tratamento. Faz revisão da literatura, abordando conceitos de infertilidade, técnicas de fertilização assistida e o Laboratório de Reprodução Assistida da UFG. A seguir há um capítulo sobre estresse e seus efeitos sobre a função reprodutiva, com questionários usados na avaliação de pacientes. Em outro capítulo aborda a música, a musicoterapia em saúde em geral e em particular em ginecologia, obstetrícia e reprodução assistida.
