Die Autorin befasst sich mit dem Vorhandensein interkultureller Probleme deutscher Lehrer in Mexiko. Eine Gegenüberstellung von adaptierten Dimensionen dient dem Vergleich der beiden Kulturen. She discusses areas such as quality of life as a motivation for migration, the role of banal nationalism in imaginaries, the dynamic subjective re-construction of Mexicanness, and the process of (imagined) »Germanisation«. Yolanda López García ultimately argues that individuals, as social agents, engage with and construct new emerging imaginaries, which may be viewed as important engines of social change.

Die deutsche und die mexikanische Kultur sind in vielem sehr verschieden. Trotz der kulturellen Unterschiede zieht es immer mehr Deutsche zum Studieren, Leben und/oder Arbeiten nach Mexiko. Schätzungen des Auswärtigen Amtes zufolge sind derzeit 15.000 Deutsche in Mexiko ansässig, zusammen mit 75.000 Deutschstämmigen. Ziel dieser Studie ist es, interkulturelle Probleme von Deutschen in Mexiko und deren Umgang mit diesen aufzuzeigen. Außerdem soll das Konzept „Kulturtiefe“ vorgestellt und auf seine Gültigkeit bzw. Geltungsbreite untersucht werden. Dieses nimmt Unterschiede im Auftreten von und im Umgang mit interkulturellen Problemen in Abhängigkeit von dem Aufenthaltsgrund des/der Deutschen, der Aufenthaltsdauer, dem Spanischniveau und sozialen Kontakten zu Mexikanern an. Diese vier Faktoren summiert und unterschiedlich gewertet sollen Aufschluss darüber geben, inwieweit die (in diesem Fall: deutsche) Person in die (hier:) mexikanische Kultur integriert ist. Die Summe dieser vier Faktoren wird Kulturtiefe genannt.

In this nuanced consideration of his own controversial Moses the Egyptian, renowned Egyptologist Jan Assmann answers his critics, extending and building upon ideas from his previous book. Maintaining that it was indeed the Moses of the Hebrew Bible who introduced the true-false distinction in a permanent and revolutionary form, Assmann reiterates that the price of this monotheistic revolution has been the exclusion, as paganism and heresy, of everything deemed incompatible with the truth it proclaims. This exclusion has exploded time and again into violence and persecution, with no end in sight. Here, for the first time, Assmann traces the repeated attempts that have been made to do away with this distinction since the early modern period. He explores at length the notions of primary versus secondary religions, of "counter-religions," and of book religions versus cultic religions.
