This interdisciplinary volume explores, analyzes, and celebrates intermedial processes. It investigates the dynamic relations between media in contemporary artistic productions such as digitalized poetry and installations or musical scores by Walter Steffens and Hugh Davies; in texts like Dieter Roth’s diaries, Ror Wolf’s guidebooks, Charles Baudelaire’s art criticism, or Lewis Carroll’s Alice books; and in inherently intermedial pieces like Stéphane Mallarmé’s Un Coup de Dés and Augusto de Campos’s poetry. Through distinct and diverse methodological approaches to intermedial inquiry, the contributors probe multiple forms of interaction between media: adaptation, appropriation, transposition, transfer, recycling, grafting, recontextualization, intertextualization, transmedialization, and transcreation. In so doing, they offer perspectives which refine our understanding of the term ‘medium’ and demonstrate ways in which intermedial creations engage their audiences and stimulate creative responses. Este volume reúne doze estudos que abordam múltiplas facetas da linguagem, seja como sistema formal, seja como prática social, e mostram tanto resultados já alcançados em pesquisa quanto caminhos a percorrer. Em pleno século XXI, a tendência epistemológica à trans/interdisciplinaridade tem desafiado o conhecimento disciplinar (Pombo, 2004), e isso não é diferente no âmbito das Letras (Signorini; Cavalcanti, 1998; Fiorin, 2008). Aqui estão estudos que, sem perder de vista as responsabilidades com o campo em que se inserem, lançam-se à integração de saberes para descrição, análise e/ou interpretação das provocações mais contemporâneas. Considerando a complexidade dos fenômenos linguageiros, os estudos ora apresentados desenvolvem-se na relação com as ciências cognitivas, especialmente com modelos cognitivos representacionais, para desenho de diferentes modos de conceber a representação linguística; com as ciências sociais, para a construção de dispositivos que deem conta da instalação do sujeito e da história na linguagem por meio de diferentes formas de discurso; com a educação, para consideração do que está implicado na tarefa metalinguageira nos processos de ensino-aprendizagem institucionais e suas implicações para a participação na vida social; com a política, com fins de discussão mediadora entre o saber linguageiro e o vetor das migrações para pensar as políticas linguísticas e o vetor das novas tecnologias para pensar as questões éticas que emergem dos papéis que estas assumem. Assim, os capítulos distribuem-se numa sequência que parte da aquisição da linguagem, perpassa pela interface léxico-gramatical, atravessa o sincretismo verbo-visual, dialogando, entre as diferentes abordagens, com questões de educação linguística, levando-nos a refletir sobre os processos de constituição dos sujeitos na sua relação com as transformações em curso no mundo contemporâneo.
