The income elasticity estimates for the 50 or so countries and 10 commodity groups are tabulated. The reliability of these elasticity estimates, and also the demand theory hypotheses, are investigated using simulation techniques.

Originally published in 1978, this report summarises the results of a workshop on why energy consumption is much higher in the United States than other industrialised countries with similar living standards. The papers included in the workshop make interesting comparisons between countries such as Japan and the United Kingdom and the United States, raising interesting questions about environmental policy-making. This title will be of interest to students of Environmental Studies.

This book extends research in consumption economics by identifying similarities and differences in consumption patterns in a large number of countries, both developed and less developed. Its approach is to carefully analyze a large body of data from a highly diverse group of countries to determine the extent to which a simple economic framework can be used to understand and explain consumer behavior. It uses data from more than 40 countries which range from the most affluent to the poorest in the world. The book pays particular attention to the consumption of food and to new simulation techniques applied to systems of demand equations.

Economic Development And Consumption Patterns In Asian Countries written by Shashika D. Rathnayaka and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-05 with Business & Economics categories.
This book analyzes consumption patterns in Asian countries that are at different stages of economic development and highlights the similarities and disparities of consumption patterns across countries using a system-wide framework. In a departure from previous studies in the literature which mainly present only single-country analysis, this book aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of cross-country consumption patterns considering several Asian countries, using the most recent consumption expenditure data for aggregate commodity groups. In comparing consumption patterns across countries, the book use unit-free measurements such as budget shares and changes in logarithms of price and quantities, thus avoiding problems associated with exchange rate conversions. The book also analyses the dynamic behaviour in the consumption patterns of the Asian consumers. The findings of this book will be invaluable to researchers in development economics as well as policymakers in the formulation of fiscal policy or other types of economic control.

International Outlook 2016, an updated statistical reference with energy projections, is provided as a service to energy managers and analysts, both in government and in the private sector. The projections are used by international agencies, federal and state governments, trade associations, and other planners and decision makers. They are published pursuant to the Department of Energy Organization Act of 1977 (Public Law 95-91), Section 205(c). The report begins with a review of world trends in energy demand and the major macroeconomic assumptions used in deriving the International Energy Outlook 2016 (IEO2016) projections, along with the major sources of uncertainty in the projections, which extend through 2040. In addition to the Reference case projections, High Economic Growth and Low Economic Growth cases were developed to consider the effects of higher and lower growth paths for economic activity than are assumed in the Reference case. IEO2016 also includes a High Oil Price case and, alternatively, a Low Oil Price case. The resulting projections--and the uncertainty associated with international energy projections in general--are discussed in Chapter 1, "World energy demand and economic outlook." Projections for energy consumption and production by fuel--petroleum and other liquid fuels, natural gas, and coal--are presented in Chapters 2, 3, and 4, along with reviews of the current status of each fuel on a worldwide basis. Chapter 5 discusses the projections for world electricity markets--including nuclear power, hydropower, and other marketed renewable energy resources--and presents projections of world installed generating capacity. Chapter 6 presents a discussion of energy used in the buildings sector (residential and commercial). Chapter 7 provides a discussion of industrial sector energy use. Chapter 8 includes a detailed look at the world's transportation energy use. Finally, Chapter 9 discusses the outlook for global energy-related carbon dioxide emissions. IEO 2016 focuses exclusively on marketed energy. Non-marketed energy sources, which continue to play an important role in some developiing countries, are not included in the estimates. The comparison between international purchasing power and real GDP is very important to the judgment of national power and is the main content of national economic statistics. Although the ICP has experienced more than 50 years, its methodological research should continue. This book gives the research pattern, namely "ICP logic diagram", and puts forward more than 50 methodological issues to be considered. The "pure price ratio assumption" and "equal price ratio assumption" and their impact on the ICP data results are analyzed. It also reviews the important literatures on the recent ICP, especially pointing out that the ICP data results have the measurement risk of "anti-basic facts". This book traces back to "Ryten Report" and explores the principles of spatial economic comparison and the corresponding basic concepts of economics.

Summarizing the Asia and the Pacific results of the 2021 International Comparison Program, this report estimates purchasing power parities (PPPs) and PPP-based measures of total and per capita real gross domestic product (GDP) for 21 economies. It also provides revised results for the 2017 ICP cycle. The PPPs enable comparison in real terms across economies by removing price level differences among them. The results provide policy makers and other users with useful information on price levels and PPP-based GDP expenditure values for comparative analysis and policy applications. The ICP is a global statistical initiative carried out under the auspices of the United Nations Statistical Commission.
