Increasing numbers of people have connections with one country, but live and work in another, frequently owning property or investments in several countries. As such, international aspects arise in an increasing number of estates. Different countries may have separate arrangements for ownership, taxation, and succession. International Succession equips practitioners with the information necessary to navigate problems involving these different systems. Although lawyers would often advise only on the law of the jurisdictions in which they are based, seeking advice from lawyers in other countries, this book will save the practitioner the time - and expense - of ascertaining the basics concerning the inheritance systems in different countries, offering clear and easy to use information on the laws of inheritance and succession. Each country's report is based on responses to a comprehensive questionnaire that considers the practical issues arising from the jurisdiction's individual laws, making it easy for users to make specific comparisons between the laws of one country and another. The book covers over fifty countries with entries written by experts from each country, making it an invaluable resource for the busy practitioner. This title is an improved and expanded version of International Succession, edited by Louis Garb and published by Kluwer Law International, 2004. This edition, published in hardback form, will also be supplemented annually in between editions to update the individual country entries.

This book presents a broad overview of succession law, encompassing aspects of family law, testamentary law and legal history. It examines society and legal practice in Europe from the Middle Ages to the present from both a legal and a sociological perspective. The contributing authors investigate various aspects of succession law that have not yet been thoroughly examined by legal historians, and in doing so they not only add to our knowledge of past succession law but also provide a valuable key to interpreting and understanding current European succession law. Readers can explore such issues as the importance of a father’s permission to marry in relation to disinheritance, as well as inheritance transactions and private, dynastic and cross-border successions. Further themes addressed by the expert contributors include women’s inheritance rights, the laws of succession for the prince in legal consulting, and succession in the Rota Romana’s jurisprudence.

Swiss inheritance law has numerous peculiarities that differ significantly from the regulations in other countries. For foreign citizens who live in Switzerland or own assets here, this often gives rise to complex questions: Which inheritance law applies? To what extent can foreign wills be recognised? What options are there for arranging one's own estate in good time to avoid unwanted tax or inheritance consequences? This reference book offers a comprehensive introduction to Swiss inheritance law with a particular focus on the situation of foreign citizens. It shows which legal framework conditions apply, how inheritance and compulsory portion regulations are designed and what scope there is for estate planning. In addition, international conflicts of inheritance law, questions of asset transfer and the tax implications of inheritance cases are examined in detail. The interplay between Swiss inheritance law and double taxation agreements and other international agreements is also analysed. An important reference work for anyone dealing with inheritance challenges in an international context. Bremen University Press has published over 4,500 academic books in various languages over the past 10 years. 1st edition 2025

Inheritance Law Impact written by Amelia Scott and has been published by Publifye AS this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-02-21 with Political Science categories.
Inheritance Law Impact offers a deep dive into how inheritance laws shape wealth distribution and social mobility, impacting a nation's economic landscape. It highlights that these laws are not neutral; they actively influence wealth trajectories across generations. For example, legal systems favoring primogeniture concentrate wealth, while those mandating equal division among heirs foster greater economic opportunity. The book explores the interplay between inheritance law regimes, wealth concentration, and social mobility. It examines how various legal systems, from feudal systems to modern egalitarian approaches, influence capital accumulation and wealth distribution. By synthesizing economic research, legal scholarship, and statistical data from multiple countries, it reveals common threads and unique divergences in inheritance laws worldwide. Approaching the topic with an interdisciplinary lens, the book progresses logically across chapters, beginning with key concepts and definitions, then moving to direct and indirect effects of inheritance laws on wealth inequality, and finally exploring policy implications. This comprehensive overview makes Inheritance Law Impact valuable for economists, legal scholars, policymakers, and anyone interested in the root causes of wealth inequality and potential policy interventions.

The volume Planning for Death: Wills and Death-Related Property Arrangements in Europe, 1200-1600 analyses death-related property transfers in several European regions (England, Poland, Italy, South Tirol, and Sweden). Laws and customary practice provided a legal framework for all post-mortem property devolution. However, personal preference and varied succession strategies meant that individuals could plan for death by various legal means. These individual legal acts could include matrimonial property arrangements (marriage contracts, morning gifts) and legal means of altering heirship by subtracting or adding heirs. Wills and testamentary practice are given special attention, while the volume also discusses the timing of the legal acts, suggesting that while some people made careful and timely arrangements, others only reacted to sudden events. Helmholz, Mia Korpiola, Anu Lahtinen, Marko Lamberg, Margareth Lanzinger, Janine Maegraith, Federica Masè, Anthony Musson, Tuula Rantala, Elsa Trolle Önnerfors, and Jakub Wysmułek.
