INTERNATIONAL RIDER II - FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTSThe International Riding Academy offers four main levels of horsemanship. These levels are progressive and designed for riders 12 years and older, however there are open to riders of any age. Riders not yet ready for this program and try the Young Rider program with four easier levels. This program is not designed to replace a riding coach or instructor, rather to just aid in riding lessons. In fact, the program can help as a guideline in the coach's riding lesson program. As well, the levels give the student a proper horsemanship skill base and education in stable management.Graduates of the program can go on to become Stable Managers, Horse Trainers and Coaches! Each level consists of a Work book and informative DVDs. Testing is open book and all multiple choice. A passing grade is 60%. Mounted work is done by video testing and passing grade is 55%. There are several tests for each level, the majority will be theory tests and there will always be one riding theory test. Mounted videos are: Assessment, Flat and Gymnastic (except Rider I). Classical Horsemanship is the foundation of all disciplines, therefore it is also used as a base test for the levels, however not everyone enjoys English riding, therefore, there is also a Western option.A rider may use one to several horses for testing and there is no time limit. The rider just needs to be a current member and enrolled in the proper riding level class.Upon completion a rider will be issued a certificate.Tests can be sent in anytime. Riding tests are done once per semester with four semesters throughout the year. Danish award ribbons are awarded for each mounted test. The rider level program is closely structured to the classical horsemanship that is the basis of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. The systemic levels increase in difficulty and intensity. Rider Two is for all ages who wish to study ground work, safety and the riding basics that should not be skipped by even the experienced rider.Rider II riders show a little more confidence and polish than those in Rider I. The rider's seat is more independent and his hands are more sympathetic.Tack can vary in styles, but not be mixed and matched. For example, an English rider should use all English tack and attire.Rider clothing can be academic. Please, refer to the Disciplines for proper tack and attire. The horse's turn-out is important, however the horse does not need to be clipped or braided. An effort must be shown to have the horse clean and presentable.During the test a reader can call out directions.Once you have purchased this book, contact the International Riding Academy for details and the rest of the course information for free. For more information and the course syllabus, refer to the website http://iracademy.webs.com

A valuable, thought-provoking look at the best ways riders and horses can learn and improve together. Riding well can be a puzzle. This book puts together the pieces, including: How humans and horses learn. Striving for partnership vs. dictatorship. Early training and developing skills. Demystifying equestrian-speak. Dressage outside the arena. Ground poles for the rest of us. Jumping and cross-country tips. Solving problems, wherever you ride. Competition psychology. Being coached and being a coach. “This book is aimed at riders, coaches, and anyone interested in learning more about how humans and horses interact. I have tried to harness my own experiences when I cover the three main disciplines—dressage, show jumping, and eventing—and how they relate to one another. I look at how those in a coaching position can guide riders to perform better by making their lives less complicated and more fulfilling, and I examine how riders can apply the same principles to training their horses and become self-sufficient.” —Eric Smiley

Dressage For No Country written by Paul Belasik and has been published by Trafalgar Square Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-15 with Sports & Recreation categories.

In the 1970s, the sport of dressage was still in its infancy in the United States. Unlike the countries of Europe, there was neither an established tradition nor a written history to educate and inspire. A rider intent on learning the discipline had to be prepared to travel, to immerse himself in other cultures, and to care only for what those who had already mastered the art might teach him. Paul Belasik was this rider, intent on learning all he could about dressage methodology, and willing and able to compare and contrast the various means for achieving related goals: beautiful movement, “lightness,” connection between two beings. In these pages he shares a lifetime of searching and studying, both through stories of his own adventures and thoughtful essays on the subjects he has pondered during the years he has trained and ridden horses. Beginning in northern New York, and traveling to Portugal, and later, Vienna, Belasik serves as a tour guide of the various dressage “paths” he had the chance to explore, including the German system, the Portuguese art of equitation, and the revered institutions of the Spanish Riding School. Armed with the knowledge and experience he accrued over time, Belasik debates whether classical dressage and competition dressage are at all compatible. Then, he considers the role of mindfulness, how to become a good teacher, and how to be a good student in today's horse world, providing the guideposts needed to take dressage–and riding, in general–the next step forward.

Like a modern-day Don Quixote, Joe Kurmaskie—bike adventurer, writer, and twelve-year-old boy trapped in a man’s body—wanders the world on two wheels, often with hilarious results, in Riding Outside the Lines. A jaunt through such far-flung locations as Ireland, Australia, Mexico, South America, and beyond, here is a collection of tales woven together with one central theme: the world is a much smaller place when you view it from the seat of a bicycle. Whether he’s weekending in the buff after accidentally stumbling into a nudist colony wedding, knocking back red wine in tin cans with a gun-toting ex–bounty hunter, combing the countryside in a quest to find the all-girl bagpipe squad he met in his dreams, or playing a rousing game of ice golf on the frozen tundra, Joe Kurmaskie writes of his gonzo global trek in a spirit infused with insight, good humor, and optimism. Riding Outside the Lines encourages travel buffs and armchair explorers alike to get on your bike and see the beauty of our planet and the colorful souls who populate it.

Equitation Science written by Paul McGreevy and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-11-28 with Medical categories.

Written by two internationally recognised experts, Equitation Science is the first book to draw together the principles of this emerging field into a much-needed coherent source of information. The goal of equitation science is to enhance our understanding of how horses think and learn, and to use their natural behaviour to train, ride or compete with them in as fair a manner as possible. The welfare consequences of training and competing horses under different protocols are explored. Drawing on traditional and emergent techniques, this book incorporates learning theory into an ethical equine training system suitable for all levels. It also focuses on evidence-based approaches that improve rider safety. "Equitation Science is one of those rare books that is going to change the way we train and manage horses forever. It brings together a fundamental understanding of the way horses think and behave and presents a system of modern training that has the welfare of the horse at its core – it must be the foundation work for the next generation of professional and amateur riders and trainers. Riders will ride better, trainers will train better and we will have happier, healthier horses." —Wayne Channon, International Grand Prix Rider "I found this a very interesting and enlightening book. Equitation Science will help anyone involved with horses to understand them more and to be more effective in their training and education. The knowledge this brings to anyone involved with horses should help to make the horses’ lives easier and therefore allow the partnership between humans and equines to flourish." —Yogi Breisner, British Eventing Performance Manager "Equitation Science is an ambitious and thorough look at an enormous range of areas, approaches and factors concerning the training of horses. The authors have an underlying theme to their text of scientifically assessing and then also promoting the use of ethical and humane methods of horse training to increase all sport horses’ welfare and happiness within their sporting requirements. Equitation Science also provides an invaluable insight as to how and why what we do with our horses actually works." —Paul Tapner, Professional International Advanced Eventing Rider, Badminton CCI**** 2010 Winner

A Gymnastic Riding System Using Mind Body Spirit written by Betsy Steiner and has been published by Trafalgar Square Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-01 with Sports & Recreation categories.

A multifaceted training system for riders and horses of all levels. Most books discuss the physical aspects of riding: horse position, rider position, use of aids, schooling exercises, and movements. Betsy Steiner, however, an international rider and trainer, believes that the physical is just one-third of the riding equation, and that two equally important vital components—the intellectual and the psychological—are often ignored. Her approach to riding and training is to use the body, mind, and spirit, all working together to create a rich experience she call gymnastic training that addresses horse and rider as the three-dimensional beings that they are. This training system is geared toward maintaining proper form and alignment—crucial for human and equine athletes alike. Progress is achieved by use of inventive gymnastic schooling exercises for the horse, and a tailored program of Pilates exercises enabling the rider to become athletic, lithe, energetic, and flexible.

Making It Happen written by Carl Hester and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-08 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Carl Hester is one of the greatest ever equestrians, leading Great Britain to Gold Medal victory at the London 2012 Olympics. In these vibrant memoirs, he tells the incredible story of the passion for horse-riding which revolutionised his life and made him the champion he is today. Carl grew up on the remote Channel Island of Sark, moving to the UK mainland at the age of 16 to work with horses, mainly as a way to leave home. He could never have predicted what a great affinity he would have for dressage. Carl's career enjoyed a stratospheric rise as he progressed from working as a groom/rider to riding international dressage horses full time for renowned owners Dr and Mrs Bechtolsheimer, to training his own horses, and other top riders, to international success. Carl's early career revealed someone capable of monumental achievements. He provides a rare insight into both the people and the horses that drove him to victory, initially the skewbald mare Jolly Dolly on which he won the 1985 Young Riders Dressage Championship. During the early 1990s he rode in the World Championships, the European Championships and the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, becoming Great Britain's youngest ever rider to compete in the Games. His riding skills have increased with age, culminating in the hugely successful years as part of the Gold Medal teams that won the 2011 European Dressage Championships and, of course, that made history at London 2012. He achieved both feats on the same extraordinary horse, Uthopia, while as a trainer he produced the even more remarkable combination of Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro. A first-class sportsman and a witty and engaging writer, Carl now offers his admirers the opportunity to read an intelligent, humorous and, above all, inspiring account of his life - from the ups and downs of his career to the motivations and techniques which have helped him to win 66 national titles, represent Team GB at four Olympic Games, two World Championships and seven European Championships, and become one of the best riders - and horsemen - in the world.
