Der Fortschritt in der Technologie, Forschung und Entwicklung führte in den letzten Jahrzenten zu immer kürzeren Lebenszyklen der jeweiligen Produkte, wechselnden Kunden und einem hohen Preisverfall. Zunehmende internationale Verflechtungen der Weltwirtschaft erhöhen die Komplexität und erfordern daher mehr Transparenz. Im Hinblick auf dieses Szenario ist ein flexibles Controlling für eine nachhaltige erfolgreiche Unternehmensführung unerlässlich, um am Wettbewerb teilnehmen zu können und sich zu behaupten. Ein schnelles Reagieren auf Veränderungen ist ohne die geeigneten Instrumente nicht möglich. Diesen Anspruch scheint jedoch die klassische Budgetierung, geprägt vom Taylorismus und der Zentralisation, nicht erfüllen zu können und steht deshalb immer häufiger in der Diskussion. Für einige Manager scheint das Konzept des Beyond Budgeting eine Alternative zu sein. Beyond Budgeting bedeutet eine radikale Dezentralisierung und Auflösung der hierarischen Strukturen, wie sie im Taylorismus vorzufinden sind, um die Unternehmen an heutige Bedingungen anzupassen. Die vorliegende Seminararbeit soll die Forschungsfrage beantworten, ob das Modell des Beyond Budgeting, als Weiterentwicklung des Scientific Management sinnvoll ist, um Unternehmen zu dezentralisieren und dadurch besser zu internationalisieren? Zu Beginn ist es von Nöten, die Begriffe Scientific Management und Beyond Budgeting, besonders im Hinblick auf die angestrebte Dezentralisierung, näher zu erläutern. Anschließend soll geprüft werden, inwieweit die Dezentralisierung die Internationalisierung eines Unternehmens fördert und welche Faktoren hierbei besonders zu beachten sind, um schließlich festzustellen, ob das Beyond Budgeting als geeignetes Instrument zur Dezentralisierung und folglich zur Internationalisierung verwendet werden kann. Beispielhaft wird untersucht, ob die Implementierung des Beyond Budgeting bei Svenska Handelsbanken als positiv zu beurteilen ist.
